Hinako Shibuno, on her way to winning last year’s Women’s Open Championship, was dubbed the “Smiling Cinderella.” She smiled brightly. She smiled often.

Her teeth came out again Saturday. She was griting them.

“All the holes seemed to be very difficult for me,” Shibuno said through a translator.

Shibuno started the third round of the U.S. Women’s Open with a three-stroke lead. She ended it ahead by one. Shibuno shot a three-over 74 for a four-under total, and she leads Amy Olson by the one stroke, and Moriya Jutanugarn and Ji Yeong Kim2 by three shots. On Sunday, Shibuno, Olson and Jutanugarn tee off at 10:30 a.m. ET in the day’s final grouping at Champions Golf Club in Houston, and Kim2, Lydia Ko and Yealimi Noh tee off second-to-last, at 10:24.
