Here’s how much the top 10 golfers in the world have won in their careers

December 30, 2019

Pro golfers make a lot of money plying their trade on the PGA Tour. In fact, for much of the 2000s, Tiger Woods was the top earner in all professional sports, and Phil Mickelson was second (albeit a distant second). Over the years, those players’ net worths have risen dramatically as a result.

And while income has grown across all sports, it hasn’t stopped growing in golf. At the beginning of Tiger’s career, winner’s shares at tournaments never sniffed $1 million. His winner’s check at the 2001 Masters was the first ever to cross that threshold.

In the 2018-19 season, only four opposite-field events had winner’s shares under $1 million. More strikingly, three tournaments — the Players Championship, the Masters and the U.S. Open — gave their champions checks surpassing $2 million, with the PGA and Open Championships just missing that number.

Need more evidence? Look no further than the FedEx Cup and Tour Championship. Rory McIlroy took home a whopping $15 million for his victory at East Lake this year. That’s $5 million more than Justin Rose received last year.

The figures are dizzying. Here’s a look at how much cash each player in the top 10 of the world ranking has won in his PGA Tour career, including their individual hauls (tournament winnings + FedEx Cup bonuses) in the 2018-19 season.
