CJ Cup highlights: Watch final round action from Justin Thomas’ thrilling win

October 20, 2019

You were probably sleeping during the final round of the CJ Cup. Don’t worry, I was too. But unfortunately, that means we missed a pretty phenomenal finish. Let’s run through it real quick with a smattering of highlights from Sunday’s final round.

Jordan Spieth

Spieth never truly threatened the lead on Sunday. His high-point of the event came during his second-round 65, but his play remained solid throughout the tournament, finishing T-8 and giving U.S. Presidents Cup captain Tiger Woods something to think about as he looks for a spot on the team.

Gary Woodland

The same goes for reigning U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland, who grabbed a share of the lead at one point on Sunday and all but assured that he’ll receive Captain’s Pick for the upcoming President’s Cup. His weekend rounds of 65-66 finished him T-3.

Byeong Hun An

Byeong Hun An was fourth in the field in Putts per GIR and showed why once again on Sunday, dropping in this long putt from range. It was enough for a T-6 finish, the low Korean on the leaderboard.

Danny Lee

But for most of the day, it was a two-way contest between Danny Lee and eventual winner, Justin Thomas. Danny Lee made the turn in three under thanks to some brilliant putting and scrambling, finishing first in scrambling and T-8 in Putts per GIR. After jostling with the lead for most of the day, back-to-back bogeys on the 15th and 16th holes meant he finished in solo second at 18-under.

Justin Thomas

It was Justin Thomas who the day ultimately belonged to, though. He made just two bogeys all day en-route to a final round 67, earning the 26 year-old American his 11th PGA tour win and second CJ Cup.

The tournament wasn’t won simply with a short or two, but this couple will certainly stand out in the memory.
