WATCH: Eddie Pepperell breaks putter over his neck in hilarious 14 Club Challenge

July 6, 2019

The European Tour is at beautiful Lahinch Golf Club in Ireland this week for the 2019 Irish Open. As is its custom, the Euro Tour decided to have a little fun at the iconic venue, and once again tour funnyman Eddie Pepperell was called on for his golf and comedic talents.

But, somehow, a lighthearted skills challenge with a fellow pro ultimately resulted in Pepperell breaking his putter over his own neck. And that’s after he won.

The competition in question, known as the “14 Club Challenge,” pitted Pepperell against New Zealand pro Ryan Fox on the 152-yard, par-3 8th hole at Lahinch. The goal was to safely hit the green as many times as possible, but once a club has been used, neither player can use that particular club again. The player to hit the green the most times wins.

Pepperell won the coin toss and chose to hit a 9-iron with his first shot, but it quickly devolved from there. Eventually, Fox overshoots the green with his driver, forcing Pepperell to use his putter for his last attempt.

Check out the full competition, and Pepperell’s typically hilarious commentary, below.

It turns out Pepperell’s putter snap was his unique way of celebrating, or maybe just registering the insanity of hitting a green in regulation with a putter. Either way, Pepperell’s putter shot sealed his victory (unlike his club snap in competition earlier this year). We just hope that wasn’t his gamer, otherwise he’ll need a re-shafting pronto.
