Shane Lowry birdied the 72nd hole and then raised his arms to celebrate his latest European Tour triumph.
Lowry’s one-under 71 in the final round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship was good enough for a one-stroke victory over Richard Sterne.
Lowry, who finished 18 under overall, held a three-shot lead to begin his round, but Sterne out-dueled Lowry by six on the front side. Sterne led Lowry by four with seven to play, but Lowry made birdies on 12 and 13 as Sterne bogeyed 14 and 16. They were tied on the 18th tee, and Lowry’s birdie put it away.
“I completely thought I was gone, to be honest,” Lowry, 31, told Sky Sports afterward. “I just tried to put him under as much pressure as I could. But I didn’t think I had that in me today.”
Lowry, who lost his PGA Tour card last year, has now won four times on the European tour.
