2019 PGA Championship Live Coverage: Highlights from the second round at Bethpage

Day 2 is underway at the 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage Black. You can follow Friday’s second round with our PGA Championship Live Coverage below, featuring live score updates, highlights from your favorite players, and video clips of the best shots.

Tee times are flipped for Round 2, so players who went off in the afternoon on Thursday will start in the morning on Friday. Among them is Phil Mickelson, who put together a fine opening-round of 69. That puts him T9 to start the second round. Phil tees off at 8:13 a.m. ET.

Several big-name players tied with Mickelson also have early tee times on Friday. Those players include Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth (7:51 a.m. ET), and Jason Day, who is grouped with Phil.

Tiger Woods will need a low round to recover from his opening 72 and catch playing partner and first-round leader Brooks Koepka who is at seven under. Woods and Koepka tee off at 1:49 p.m. ET on Friday with Francesco Molinari.

That’s all for today. It’s Brooks Koepka’s tournament to lose. Quick rundown of the leaderboard heading into the weekend: Koepka (-12), Spieth (-5), Scott (-5), Wallace (-5), List (-5), Berger (-4), Johnson (-4), Kraft (-4).

6:30: Just for good measure, Kopeka nails his birdie putt. He follows up Thursday’s 63 with a 67, and will likely enter the weekend at least six shots clear of the field. Just a dominant performance so far at Bethpage.

6:28: He did not chip in. Tiger Woods is going to miss the cut at the PGA Championship.

6:26: Not a good strike on that approach for Tiger. He’s going to have to chip-in to save his PGA Championship. Brooks, in a better spot than initially appeared, knocks a wedge to roughly 10 feet, where he’ll have a look at birdie.

6:21: Maybe the best drive of the day for Tiger on 18. Koepka misses to the right. Molinari down the right side of the fairway.

6:15: Tiger thought he got it. He did not. He’ll need a birdie on 18 to make the cut. Koepka, meanwhile, three-putts for bogey to go to 11 under, and then smiles.

6:10: Of the three, Molinari is the only one to put it close on the par-3 17th. Tiger, in need of a birdie to make the cut line, is on the center of the green. Brooks’ shot hit the ridge and funneled down to the back.

6:03: Tiger misses the birdie putt at 16, and his window is closing. Brooks made his birdie, of course. He’s now seven clear of the group at five under, and doesn’t seem to be breaking a sweat.

5:58: Koepka in close at 16. Just a machine. Might be time to just stop the fight.

5:55: Matt Wallace has four birdies in his last five holes, joining Spieth and Scott at five under. Speaking of Scott, he finished out his round, a 64, with a fantastic par save.

5:46: Koepka makes his birdie, and has opened up some DISTANCE. He’s at 11 under, with Spieth and Scott tied for second at five under. Tiger leaves his lengthy birdie putt short, finishing out for par. Fleetwood finished out his round with another bogey, bringing him all the way back to two under. Really disappointing for a guy who was six under heading to the back nine today. He shot 71.

5:40: Man. A dart into 15 for Koepka. Great chance for another birdie for him to go six shots clear of Adam Scott — who looks to be unraveling a bit himself.

5:35: So, Kelly Kraft? The guy got into the field when Justin Thomas pulled out earlier this week. He’s now three under for the tournament.

5:32: Just when it looked like he might narrowly make the cut, Tiger three-putts for bogey on 14. Goes right back to five over. Quietly, Francesco Molinari has made three birdies in his last five holes, to get to one under par for the tournament.

5:17: Tiger makes his 8-footer for birdie. Koepka slides his eagle putt just by the cup — and then knocks in his birdie. Koepka to 10 under, Tiger to four over.

5:12: Brooks flew it pin-high on his second shot into the par-5 13th. He’ll have about 20 feet for his eagle to go five shots clear of Scott.

5:05: Tiger lays up from the bunker on 13. This is as close to a “must-birdie” as there is.

4:58: If he wasn’t already, Tiger in serious jeopardy. He blows his lag putt several feet past the whole, then misses the par putt. He moves to five over for the tournament and, needless to say, needs a few birdies to make the weekend.

4:52: Adam Scott is on fire right now. It’s hard to keep up. He birdied 14 to get to six under for the tournament. He might just match Koepka’s 63 from yesterday.

4:47: Quick leaderboard update: Koepka (-9), Spieth (-5), Scott (-5), Berger (-4), Johnson (-4), Van Rooyen (-3), Lorenzo-Vera (-3), Fowler (-3), Rose (-3), List (-3)

4:38: Suddenly, Tiger Woods is on the outside looking in. He makes another bogey, sitting at four over par, one shot off the current cut line.

4:35: Have yourself a day, Adam Scott. Leaves himself 5-7 feet for another birdie to tie Fleetwood in second. And he drains it.

4:29: Tiger misses the fairway on 11 with a 3-wood. And Koepka laid to rest any possibility that he was rattled by that bogey on 10. Smokes one down the left side of the fairway.

4:17: Koepka and Tiger both make bogey, the first of the tournament for the former… not so much for the latter. Molinari, on the other hand, cans a birdie to move to one over for the tournament.

4:07: Hold your horses. Tiger in the thick stuff on the left on 10. You’ll recall he made double here yesterday. Brooks, meanwhile, is in trouble on the right.

4:02: Tiger pours a birdie in from 40 feet. Crowd goes nuts. He’ll make the turn at even par on the day despite hitting just one fairway. Koepka lips out from 12 feet, he’ll stay 10 under and four shots clear.

3:59: Adam Scott with a birdie on 11. He’s made everything today, and moves to five under on the day, four under for the tournament.

3:53: Wouldn’t ya know it, a fairway for Tiger. Elsewhere, Fleetwood finds the green on 12 from the rough. He’s alone in second, four shots behind Brooks.

3:45: After getting a decent read from Koepka’s birdie putt (which he left just short), Tiger misses his left. Could’ve really used that one.

3:41: Koepka stripes an iron. He’ll have a solid birdie look on the par-3 8th. Rinse, repeat. Tiger will have 20-25 feet for birdie as well.

3:37: Koepka proves he’s human, narrowly missing a birdie putt on 7. Tiger fails to save par from the rough, sliding the par putt to the right. He moves back to three over, right at the projected cut line. He’s hanging on for dear life now.

3:30: Koepka hits a towering iron shot…and it settles hole-high, about 15 feet right of the hole. Good spot. He’ll have another birdie chance from there.

3:29: Woods from the deep stuff..it’s a low punch out. He’s back in the fairway. Koepka next.

3:24: On 7, Woods takes driver and — wait for it — misses ANOTHER fairway. Goodness. He’s in the left rough and this one looks deep. Molinari, who is wearing a pink shirt and a red hat, splits the fairway. Koepka tees off last and rips it up the right side of the fairway. Position A.

3:18: Koepka reads it right, but it comes up two revolutions short. He taps for par. He remains 10 under. Tommy Fleetwood has moved to 3 under on the day and 6 under for the event. He’s Koepka’s closest pursuer.

3:17: Woods for birdie…and it’s good! His first of the day. Big roar from the fans. He’s back to even on the day, 2 over for the day. Koepka next.

3:14: Woods fires at the flag with his approach, and it settles about 20 feet above the hole. Koepka plays to the center of the green, and he knocks it on, about 25 left of the pin. Good, smart, safe shot.

3:09: On 6, Koepka drives it into the right rough but appears to have a decent lie. Woods misses another fairway (0-for-5!), and this time he used a 3-wood. But it’s just off the short grass, sitting up.

3:03: Woods knocks in the par-saver. He needed that. He’s still 3 over for the event.

3:01: Woods blasts out, and it comes up about 10 feet short of the cup. That’s for par. Koepka isn’t in the sand, but the deep rough just outside the bunker. He pops it out, and it trickles inside two feet. He’ll knock that in and stay three under on the day through five holes, 10 under overall.

2:59: Woods from the left rough from 160 yards, takes a big swing but it plummets into the front bunker. Koepka next, from the right rough, from 152. And he comes up just short as well, and I think it’s in that same bunker. This is a tough hole, and both guys will next to get up and down from the sand to save pars.

2:52: Woods off the tee on the tough par-4 5th..and it bounds into the left rough. He’s 0-for-4 today on fairways hit. Yeeeeesh.

2:47: Koepka cozies his eagle putt up near the hole and taps for birdie, his first bird on a par 5 this week. And just like that, he’s at 10 under, five shots clear.

2:46: Woods for birdie on 4 — the easiest hole on the course — and it burns the edge. That’ll be a par. It really looks like he’s going to have to work hard today just to make the cut.

2:42: Koepka fires at the green, and he’s aboard. He’ll have about 30 feet left for an eagle. Woods from the fairway, for his third shot, wedges it about 20 feet short of the stick. He’ll have a birdie putt, but not as close as he’d like.

2:37: Tiger lays up on the par 5. No other option there.

2:31: On the par-5 4th, Koepka’s drive it up the right side of the fairway. He failed to birdie both par 5s yesterday, but this is a good start. Meanwhile, Tiger, with driver, sends it over the fairway bunker but into the left rough. He’s missed all three fairways today.

2:28: Koepka, from 5 feet, seven inches, is good. Dead center. It’s a par. He’s still nine under, four clear of Spieth.

2:27: Tiger’s 10-footer for birdie catches the edge of the cup but stays out. Too much speed for that line. He’ll tap for par to stay 3 over. Koepka next for a big par-saver…

2:22: On the par-3 3rd, Koepka misses the green to the right and pitches up from the thick stuff. He’s gone 33 holes without a bogey..and after the chip, he’ll have about 5 feet left to keep the streak alive.

2:18: And Koepka drills the birdie putt! He moves to 9 under and extends his lead to four shots. Goodness.

2:17: Woods has about 20 feet left for par on 2…and it misses on the high side. He taps in, and he’s 3 over for the event, right on the cut line.

2:12: Woods takes a wedge and chops it up the fairway. He’ll have about 100 yards left to get up and down for par. Koepka rips his approach up the hill…and it lands on the green and sucks back toward the hole, settling about 10 feet away. What a shot. He’s already locked in.

2:08: On 2, Koepka stripes it right down the middle, then Molinari yanks his tee ball left near the tree line. Woods goes last and he takes an iron off the tee..but shoves it into the right rough, just a few yards off the fairway. The rain is starting to fall.

2:05: And Koepka drills the birdie. “The man is a machine!” says Jim Nantz on the broadcast. Well, 17 holes still left today, but it’s a perfect start. Koepka’s lead on Spieth is now three shots.

2:04: Woods blasts out to about 6 feet and cans the putt. After all that, it’s a par. Koepka next for birdie.

1:59: Tiger takes a lash and the ball comes out cleanly, settling in a greenside bunker. All told, not a bad result. Molinari knocks it to about 8 feet, and Koepka plays a low skipper to about 3 feet. Gorgeous shot. Looks like Brooks might extend his lead straight out of the gate.

1:58: As all of this is happening, Koepka just waits in the fairway. Too much chaos for he or Molinari to hit their approaches. Tiger is ready now.

1:57: Woods waving fans out of his path and clearing space to hit his approach shot. The crowd over appears to be, um, “over served.” Quite a scene.

1:55: Woods’s ball is deep in the grass, and it’s not near the grandstand at all. It’s actually going to be a tough punch-out.

1:51: Woods yanks his first tee shot waaaaay left into the gallery. Might be against a hospitality tent, and he would get a free drop if that’s the case. Not a bad angle into the hole from there, either. That was an ugly shot, but it might turn out OK. Still…oy…

1:45: Adam Scott buries ANOTHER birdie putt outside 20 feet. Birdie-birdie-birdie, and he’s 3 under for the round, and for the event.

1:42: Koepka and Woods moving over to the first tee now. The afternoon’s main event is almost here.

1:34: More movement on the leaderboard: Adam Scott opens his second round birdie-birdie (that putt on No. 2 was at least 40 feet) to get to two under.

1:28: Clouds have descended upon Bethpage and it’s starting to sprinkle. I don’t see lightning in the forecast, so it should be the kinds of thing we just play through. But a soft course is about to get a little softer.

1:21: The afternoon wave is under way, and Tommy Fleetwood has dropped an 11-footer for birdie on 1. He’s now four under, three shots back.

1:17: Mickelson and McIlroy par 18, while Day birdies. At age 48, Phil wins the group, as he’s even par through 36 holes. Day and Rors both check in at 3 over, but that should be enough to make the weekend.

1:11: Rory’s out here just dropping birdies. He’s birdied four of his last five holes to surge back inside the cut line. He’s 3 over for the event.

1:06: So as the Koepka-Woods-Molinari group prepares to tee off, this leaderboard is shaping up to be a good one. Spieth finished off a smooth 66 and is two behind Koepka. Daniel Berger and DJ are three back. This afternoon should be fun.

1:01: Spieth shot a four-under 31 on his front nine, which was his second nine.

12:59: Phil Mickelson has slowly climbed up the leaderboard too. He birdied 6 and 7 and is even today, one under overall, and has two left to play.

12:57: Nice round for DJ, too, the last player in that Rahm-Spieth-DJ trio. He pars the last to shoot 67 and is four under overall, tied for third right now with Daniel Berger.

12:55: Not a good day for Spieth’s playing partner, Jon Rahm, though. He shoots 75 and is likely to miss the cut.

12:53: Spieth finds the bunker on his approach on 9 but he splashes it to a foot or two. That’s gonna be a four-under 66 and five-under total for 36 holes. He’s in solo second right now.

12:48: Mr. Woods is warming up.

12:45: Here’s your Spieth highlight, folks. This birdie was from 39 feet.

12:41: Annnnnnnnd here comes Jordan again. He drops in a long birdie putt on 8 for his second straight birdie and he’s now five under, in solo second and just two back of Brooks.

12:38: Here’s a look at Rory’s last of the three straight birdies.

12:34: OK, now Rory’s here. That’s three straight birdies on 4, 5 and 6 and he’s four over overall. Still got work to do but making a case to stay around this weekend.

12:29: Right after DJ makes his, Spieth sinks his birdie putt on 7 and he’s also at four under, tied with Berger and DJ. Oh boy…

12:25: DJ rolls in a birdie on 7 and he’s down to four under, tied with Berger.

12:18: A competitor has arrived for his afternoon tee time:

12:16: Danny Lee jumped into a solo second after shooting 66 yesterday but fired a four-over 74 today. But through 36 he’s still two under and currently tied for 7th.

12:11: Spieth barely misses his birdie try on the right side. He taps in for par and remains three under.

12:09: Daniel Berger closes with a birdie on 9 and he shoots a four-under 66 to jump into a tie for second with Kang.

12:04: Spieth from 106 on 14 on the par-4 6th… hits behind the hole to about 15 feet. That’s for birdie a birdie and to jump into a tie for second.

12:02: Yikes. Just saw Kevin Kisner is 13 over and T147. Rough week for Kiz.

11:56: Sung Kang jumps into solo second. He birdies the 15th and is two under today and four under overall, three back of Brooks.

11:53: Of the six players at the top, two of them, Koepka (seven under) and Fleetwood (three under), have yet to tee off. Brooks is leading at seven under, and five others are at three.

11:47: Par for Spieth on 5 and he stays at T2.

11:41: Spieth with a birdie on 4! He’s two under today and three under overall and now tied for second.

11:30: Rory hasn’t done much since his tough start. Went double bogey-bogey-double bogey on 10, 11 and 12 to shoot 40 on the back, and he’s made three straight pars to start the front. He’s seven over overall and T121.

11:24: Berger makes birdies on 4 and 5 and he’s now three under through 15.

11:18: Lots and lots of guys jumping into the mix, but they are still trailing Koepka (seven under) by a bunch. Woodland, Kang, Spieth, List, Reavie among those at two under.

11:11: Ouch. Three-putt bogey for Dustin on 3. And he falls to three under overall, four back. He’s tied for second now.

11:09: Jordan Spieth is still sticking around despite his struggles of the past year or more. He rolls in a par for a sand save on 3 and remains two under on the day and one under overall. He’s tied for fifth.

10:59: Dustin Johnson has made two pars to start his front nine (he started on the back) and is still four under overall and just three back of Koepka.

10:52: Daniel Berger sighting! Berger hasn’t done much lately, but he’s all of a sudden two under through 13 today and two under overall, which is good for T5.

10:44: Here’s a look at Spieth’s birdie on 1.

10:41: Rahm is starting to find a groove now but too little too late? He just stuck it to about 3 feet on the par-4 2nd hole. Spieth, now two-under, follows bu missing the green short and right.

10:32: Birdie for Rahm and Spieth on 1, and the other player in that group, DJ, misses a 6-footer for birdie and taps in for par. DJ needs to make those if he’s gonna catch Brooks…..

10:26: Danny Lee has quietly been able to recover a little bit after his disastrous first nine holes. He’s back down to three under par and tied with Fleetwood for third after nailing three birdies in his last four holes. He is, however, still three over on the day.

10:23: Spieth finishes the front nine at even par 35 and will make the turn at one under for the tournament after a par at 18.

10:20: Well, I think someone actually did bring out the fire extinguisher because DJ cools down with a bogey on 18. He closes out his front nine at three under 32 for the day, but is now three shot back of the lead and drops to four under for the tournament.

10:09: Pars all around at 16 for McIlroy, Phil, and JD.

10:03: Five birdies for DJ! Get out the fire extinguisher because this man is on fire. He’s now five under and only two shots back of Koepka after a birdie on 17. Spieth also birdies 17 to move back to one under, while Rahm’s struggles continue with a bogey. He’s now at five over.

9:56: Just when it seemed like momentum might be going in Rory’s direction, he settles for bogey at the par-4 15th to drop to seven over for the tournament. Lefty and Day both finished with par.

9:54: DJ makes his fourth birdie of the day to move into sole possession of second place at four under, just three shots back of his buddy Brooks. Meanwhile, back-to-back bogeys for both Spieth and Rahm drops them further down the leaderboard.

9:38: Pars for Day, McIlroy, and Mickelson at the par-3 14th hole.

9:35: DJ has now joined Fleetwood at three under in a tie for second, just four shots off of Koepka. He birdies the par-4 15th, his third birdie of the day. Spieth and Rahm don’t find the same luck, as both bogey the hole.

9:27: McIlroy finally gets some luck his way, as he birdies the par-5 13th hole to move back to four over for the tournament. But Day’s struggles are starting to mount, as he now has bogeyed the last three holes. Lefty settles for par to remain at even for the tournament.

9:20: Kang’s tie with Fleetwood for second was brief, as Kang bogeyed the par-4 fifth hole to fall into the massive group tied for third at two under.

9:17: DJ, Rahm, and Spieth all finish with par at the 14th hole.

9:10: Mickelson rebounds nicely after his double bogey with a birdie at the par-4 12th hole to move back to even par. However, matters are only getting worse for McIlroy. Another double bogey drops him to five over for the day and seven over for the tournament. Back-to-back bogeys for Day drops him to one over for the day.

9:07: DJ birdies the par-5 13th hole to move to two under for the tournament and into a five-way tie for third. While Spieth settles for par to remain at two under, Rahm earns back-to-back bogeys and falls to two over for the tournament.

9:01: Tommy Fleetwood, who regained second place after Lee cratered, now has some company behind Koepka: Sung Kang. The winner of last week’s Byron Nelson birdies the par-5 fourth hole to move to three under and tied for Fleetwood four shots back of the lead.

8:52: McIlroy’s struggles continue at the 11th hole, which he bogeys to fall to three over on the day and five over for the tournament. Day is also forced to settle for bogey to fall back to even par, but Mickelson had the worst luck at the par-4. Lefty double bogeys 11 to drop into the black at one over for the tournament.

8:47: Spieth and DJ both finish with par at the 12th hole, but Rahm is forced to settle for bogey at the par-4.

8:44: Lee, who is now six over through seven holes, is on the edge of falling off the leaderboard. He’s fallen to even par for the tournament. It seems like his time near the top of the leaderboard is over.

8:29: But Lee isn’t alone; two-time PGA champion Rory McIlroy is also off to a rough start. A double bogey at the par-4 10th hole drops him to four over par. Mickelson and Day able to save par at their first hole of the day.

8:27: Meanwhile, Danny Lee’s implosion has continued. He’s struggling to hit the fairways that he hit on Thursday, as he finds himself four over par through six holes. He’s now two under and five shots back of the lead. Koepka’s lead continues to grow without having hit a tee shot yet.

8:25: Spieth gets his first birdie of the round at the 11th hole to move to two under and tied for third. However, he remains five shots back of the lead. DJ also makes birdie to move back to one under.

8:16: While Spieth and Rahm are able to save par at the 10th hole, DJ is forced to settle for bogey at the par-4.

8:13: The second featured group of the morning, which consists of Jason Day, Rory McIlroy, and Phil Mickelson, is set to tee off from the 10th hole.

8:08: It’s very early on, but Danny Lee seems to be coming down to earth a bit. Starting from the back nine, Lee is two over through five holes. He’s now down to four under for the tournament, stretching Brooks Koepka’s lead to three shots before the leader even tees off.

8:04: The first featured group of the day has begun, as Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, and Jordan Spieth have teed off from the 10th hole.

8:00: Good Friday morning from Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y., where the second round of the 2019 PGA Championship is underway. Conditions are sunny and warm, so we’re in for a beautiful day for golf.
