Christian Hafer

Welcome to GOLF’s 2020 Style Guide. Our Ashley Mayo and Christian Hafer put together their go-to looks based off their favorite items coming to market right now. So as we head toward crisp fall mornings and chilly winter rounds, these pieces will help you look cool, play confidently and feel like yourself. A few of our favorite styles from our Fall/Winter Style Guide are a little pricey. We love them, and wholeheartedly believe they’re worth the investment, but if you’re on a budget, don’t count yourself out.

Below we’ve identified our favorite splurge items and paired them with a thrifty alternative that doesn’t sacrifice the overall look.

Splurge:

LEN Lifestyle Belt

LEN Lifestyle makes elevated belts from all different leathers. This ostrich leg version has a unique texture and matte finish and is a great accessory to wear if you’re trying to subtly flex on your playing partners.

Save:

Nexbelt Alligator 2.0

This cheaper alternative gives you that same animal leather look at a more reasonable price point. Nexbelt has a few color options, but we think a neutral color is best when it comes to croc texture.

Splurge:

Lululemon Precipitation Jacket

This lightweight, waterproof, seam-sealed shell is perfect for rainy, windy days on the course. Better yet, it’s packable, making it easy to store in your bag or locker.

Save:

The North Face Men’s Venture 2 Jacket

With this less expensive alternative, you’re still getting a lightweight, waterproof and windproof jacket with a breathable ripstop exterior. The fit here is a little more relaxed, but the jacket can still pack up to fit in your bag or locker!

Splurge:

Peter Millar Reversible Camo Crew

This sweater is solid grey on one side and fun camouflage intarsia on the other. It’s made with extra fine merino wool that’s naturally breathable, yet warm.

Save:

Nordstrom Bird’s Eye Crewneck Sweater

This isn’t camo, but it has a micro texture throughout which still adds a playful and stylish element. It’s made from lightweight wool — perfect for on- or off-course wear.

Splurge:

Greyson Blue Smoke Chene Hoodie

A sporty kangaroo pocket hoodie with a stylish blue smoke print. This is perfect for crisp fall mornings.

Save:

Patagonia Men’s Tropic Comfort Hoody II

This lightweight and fast-drying hoodie wicks away moisture, has odor-control qualities and features 50+ UPF sun protection. The camo pattern is a little different than what we see from Greyson, but this all-over print style will still give you a similar look.

Splurge:

Mackenzie Original Walker

Mackenzie custom bags are truly timeless. They’re fully customizable — color, material, embroidery, patch, you name it. Yes, they’re expensive, but they’re built to last and made by hand in the U.S.

Save:

Jones Players Series Bag

This minimal bag is pretty close aesthetically to the Mackenzie bag. It comes in a variety of colors and can be personalized. Three pockets provide plenty of storage for all your golf accessories, and it’s only 3 pounds!
