GOLF 2020 Fall Style Guide: Ashley Mayo’s 7 favorite items for women

Christian Hafer

Welcome to GOLF’s 2020 Style Guide. Our Ashley Mayo and Christian Hafer put together their go-to looks based off their favorite items coming to market right now. So as we head toward crisp fall mornings and chilly winter rounds, these pieces will help you look cool, play confidently and feel like yourself. We called in hundreds of pieces for our Fall/Winter 2020 Style Guide and narrowed them down into outfits and trends that we’re personally most excited about. Below, I’ve taken the curation process one step further and have narrowed down our initial selection to highlight the seven pieces for women I’m most excited about this season. These are pieces I own, wear, and love.

Puma Jumpsuit

What it is: A one-piece jumpsuit made specifically for golfers — its blend of polyester and elastane offers more stretch than you’ll ever need, its firm collar stays in place, and its sleeveless design makes it an item that will transition easily from the beginning of fall through the season.

Why I love it: I came close to never calling in this piece, mostly because I thought there’d be no chance a jumpsuit could work on the golf course. As soon as I tried it on I realized it needs to become a new staple in my arsenal of golf wear. Its drawstring waist is what makes it universally flattering — four different women tried on the sample I received and they were all equally surprised and delighted. Its ultra-stretchy fabric makes it one of the most comfortable items of clothing I’ve ever worn, but it doesn’t at-all cling to the wrong places.

Imperial’s DNA Project collection

What it is: Imperial is celebrating its 100-year existence by launching this collection, which pays homage to some of its most memorable designs. The team dipped into its archives and brought back a wide variety of headwear — ranging from visors and buckets to trucker hats and rope caps. Along with these retro designs, the collection features some solid materials and patterns — take just one glance at it and you’ll see mesh and terry cloth and neons and tropical florals.

Why I love it: Since there’s something in this collection for everyone, you’ll very likely find something in it that speaks directly to you. The items that I gravitated toward immediately, especially when I was able to touch them and try them on, were the Mile High cap (a fun 6-panel cap made of an eye-catching mesh material); the Square One cap (a subtly patterned 5-panel nylon rope hat); the Sauciest Sauce visor (a terry-cloth tour visor your friends will 100 percent steal); the Aloha rope cap (a brightly-patterned collection of caps that’ll help brighten up your foursome); and the One Hit Wonder rope caps (a collection of neon rope caps that are wildly unique). Hats are a great way to add pizzazz to your golf outfit — now’s the time to take a chance on a style you wouldn’t normally consider.

Asher Golf Gloves

What it is: A collection of golf gloves that range from all-white and color-dipped to intricately patterned and fully colored. All the gloves are made from single piece, premium leather, delivering the highest quality.

Why I love it: Being able to express a bit of fun with the color and design of my glove is one of my favorite things, and it’s an easy way for me to pump up an otherwise boring outfit. If you’re unsure about being able to break away from an all-white glove, you can start by trying a color-dipped option. Or maybe you can try a softly colored glove that’s subtle yet beautiful, like this canary glove I find myself wearing constantly because it matches everything. Either way, expressing myself through the color and design of my golf glove is one of the most fun things I do with my outfits, and I think you’d find it fun, too.

G/Fore Perforated Disruptor

What it is: A beautifully simple yet eye-catching perforated street-style golf shoe. Made with a water-resistant leather upper, a cushioned and ribbed footbed that massages your feet when you walk, and a spikeless outsole that has traction knobs integrated into a specific design for maximum grip.

Why I love it: These kicks pair well with essentially every outfit, offering the simplicity you need for universal matching but the intricacy required for eye-catching quality. What’s more, they’re comfortable straight out of the box (they run incredibly true to size) and require zero break-in.

G/Fore Perf Disruptor

This shoe is the perfect merger of streetwear and golf. It will easily match back to all of your golf outfits and features trendy perforation throughout for a sporty look.

Jones Original Lancer Bag

What it is: This is a leather-like version of the original Jones carry bag. Its vinyl material is easy to keep clean and its unstructured body and single-strap design pays homage to Jones’ roots and traditions.

Why I love it: This bag is so neutral it pairs well with essentially every outfit, but it’s also so unique it catches everyone’s attention. A lot of people ask me if I’m able to throw an entire set of 14 clubs in my Jones bags, and the quick answer is yes. That said, my set consists of 13 clubs and that fits even better than a full 14. I think a set of 12 clubs would be ideal, and there’s no need to go lower than that.

Puma RS-G Shoe

What it is: A trendy golf shoe that draws its inspiration from Puma’s popular (and unmistakable) RS collection of chunky ’80s sneakers. This golf version is designed with a seam-sealed, waterproof upper that blocks moisture when you’re sweeping dew, and large carbon rubber lugs are specifically placed throughout the outsole for ultimate traction.

Why I love it: This is a golf shoe that makes a bold statement. When I first tried them on they seemed tight, but they actually broke in quite nicely just a few holes into my round, and they became increasingly comfortable without coming anywhere close to creating a blister. They’re designed with a foam midsole and sockliner that offer an extra boost of cushioning and comfort. My favorite colorway is the pumpkin-and-sage option, followed by all white. The key to wearing these is pairing them with outfits that are simple and sleek, since the shoes themselves will speak loudly and make enough of a statement. They run true to size.

Foray Frosted Floom Skirt

What it is: A skirt that offers a comfortable, flattering silhouette paired with a show-stopping, gorgeous floral pattern. Made from ultra-stretchy, wrinkle-resistant Italian jersey, this piece is designed with a hidden pocket that accommodates balls, tees and even phones. A silicone strip inside the leg openings help that pair of shorts underneath the skirt stay put.

Why I love it: Foray Golf has quickly become known for their stunning floral patterns, and this skirt exemplifies their expertise. Investing in an item like this means being able to build a number of memorable outfits that’ll help you feel athletic and feminine on the course. Since the floral pattern is made with a number of colors — navy, royal blue, gray, even hints of orange — when I wear it I pull one of those colors out and make sure the rest of my outfit stays true to that one color. For example, this skirt pairs nicely with a navy polo, navy hat and white shoes. It might also look great with a sienna-colored polo, and definitely stands out against a gray polo and grey cap. The possibilities are endless, and this piece will be a go-to for me for the rest of the season.
