In 2018, Tiger Woods was in the midst of a big-time comeback. By the time he reached the Tour Championship, he had played a full schedule of 18 events, notching a number of close calls — 12 top-25 finishes, including two runner-ups — but no wins. It had been five years, in fact, since his last victory at the 2013 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
So when he led the 2018 Tour Championship by three strokes heading into the final round, anticipation for the Big Cat’s 80th Tour victory was peaking. And when he was filmed striding onto the club grounds wearing a skin-tight sleeveless workout tank, backwards hat, and carrying his signature Sunday red polo on a hanger, he pretty much broke the internet.

“Oh. My. Lord. IT’S OVER!!!” Twitter handle @GCTigerTracker gleefully proclaimed. It was a true Alpha Moment for Woods. And as it turned out, it was in fact over. Woods won the tournament by two shots over Billy Horschel. Did the dramatic entrance play a role? We’ll let you be the judge. But such is the power of the arrival outfit, which has a long history in other sports like football and basketball: The pre-game (or pre-round) look a player chooses had the ability to convey a sense of power, style and substance. A win before the win, if you will.
And at this week’s Players Championship, Swedish apparel designer J.Lindeberg is going all in on the concept with the introduction of “Tunnelfits,” an initiative in which they outfit their roster of ambassadors — Viktor Hovland, Matthieu Pavon, and Kevin Yu — in a versatile collection of apparel, ideally suited for a pre-round showcase.
As a lifestyle brand, J.Lindeberg is uniquely suited for this kind of endeavor. With a catalogue that expands beyond golf and athletic wear, many pieces in J.Lindeberg’s latest collection are ultra fashion-forward — more suited for the runway than the fairway. That makes the Tunnelfits concept an innovative way to demonstrate the brand’s range.
Watch out for new J.Lindeberg Tunnelfits throughout the major season this year, as well as at some Signature Events.
