Steph Curry will return to play in Web.com tour event in August

July 30, 2018

Steph Curry will return to the Web.com Tour’s Ellie Mae Classic next month, once again playing in the tournament as an amateur. At last year’s event, Curry’s 74-74 wasn’t enough to make the weekend cut, but it was a respectable performance that also brought hordes of coverage to the Web.com Tour.

In a press release, the tournament director called Curry’s involvement in 2017 a “tremendous success.” He also called the Golden State Warriors point guard “a pillar of the Bay Area community.”

“The players on the Web.com Tour welcomed me with open arms in 2017, and it was an amazing experience to play with up-and-coming PGA Tour stars inside the ropes at TPC Stonebrae,” Curry said in the release.

He may have missed the cut last year, but he still managed to impress a number of professional golfers. “That was awesome what he did yesterday,” Jordan Spieth said at the time. Jason Day was also impressed: “To be honest, I think it’s pretty special for a two-time MVP to be able to shoot 74 at a pro event and beat other pros,” he said.

The basketball star has always been an avid player. Reports surfaced in May that Curry and his team were in the process of planning a new PGA Tour event, which he would host, to take place in fall 2019.
