Steph Curry clashes with comedian Bob Menery in hilarious high-stakes golf match

August 10, 2019

While the game’s biggest stars faced off at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey on Friday in the first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs, another high stakes golf match was played on the West Coast. Six-time NBA All Star, two-time MVP and three-time champ Steph Curry faced off with comedian and viral social media sensation Bob Menery at Riviera Country Club.

But this wasn’t your average friendly neighborhood golf outing.

The Stakes

At the outset of the match, Menery proposed a bet: “If I win, [Steph Curry] had to subtly name drop me in three interviews. If he won, I had to wear his Steph Curry jersey for 30 days in a row.”

Curry gave Menery 10 strokes to make it a fair fight.

The Outcome

Through nine holes, Curry was just 1-up, despite Menery’s “constant snap hooks that kept going into the trees left.”

Curry’s game lead held until the pair reached No. 14, where Menery was able to steal the hole and even things up.

However, it all came down to No. 18. Both Menery and Curry left themselves long birdie putts — Steph’s for the win, Menery’s to send this match to extra holes. Unfortunately, Menery wasn’t able to make his putt, handing Steph the win and sealing his fate to wear a Curry jersey for the next month.

You can watch a recap of the match below.

Luckily for Menery, he is “allowed to wash the jersey,” but while it’s in the spin cycle he “must replace it with another jersey.”

Even in defeat, Menery couldn’t compliment Curry enough.

“He doesn’t miss off the tee, his irons are pure as ever. He rarely misses. If he had made any putts, he could of easily shot under par. He hits the ball like 315 so pure ” Menery said. “It was amazing how he conducts himself, the guy is the true definition of a SUPERSTAR.”

In an exclusive interview with GOLF.com, Menery revealed that a rematch with Steph is also likely.

“A rematch is coming soon…I think we got Mickelson in as well.”

With the loss fresh on his mind and the jersey on his person, Menery is looking forward to rounds with the likes of Barack Obama, Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Wahlberg if he can swing it.

And we hope he does, because if this first match was any indication, the next will be equally entertaining — something the game could use every now and then.
