U.S. Open 2019 : Joe Buck gushes over Jim Nantz during Fox’s golf broadcast

June 16, 2019

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Television worlds collided on Saturday at the 2019 U.S. Open. During the third round broadcast, CBS’ Jim Nantz dropped by the Fox Sports broadcast booth and announcer Joe Buck immediately started gushing over the legendary commentator.

Nantz is a resident of Carmel and talked all about Pebble Beach; the course itself, the area — “everybody’s happy when they’re here” — and HE even bragged about his oil painting of the course designer along the way.

“I do have the only known portrait of the great man.”

It was just after that the Joe Buck turned to look straight into the camera and lavished praise on Nantz:

“And to have you on our air, let me just say it looking into that camera there, he is the best to ever call golf on television, so thanks for joining us.”

Nantz looked bashful after Buck’s praise, thanked him before continuing on about Pebble Beach.
