Jack Nicklaus’ lifelong dream became a reality in the spring of 1976 when he hosted the first-ever Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club, which he founded and designed.
A bit of history and also a fun fact: Nicklaus named Muirfield Village after the Scottish original, which he first played in the Walker Cup as a 19-year-old amateur.
Nicklaus created the Memorial Tournament to honor those who have contributed to the game of golf. Annually scheduled during the week of Memorial Day, the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield admirably honors our military, country and those who have given their lives to allow the rest of us to live freely — and play golf! — in the United States.
The Memorial Tournament is layered with numerous charitable initiatives that Nicklaus supports year-round — the Golden Bear is quite the philanthropist.
Nicklaus gives back in more ways than most realize.
Nicklaus is the definition of a living golf legend. If you’re a fan of Nicklaus and the history he’s made, show the love by adorning yourself in some Golden Bear-branded accessories.
