SuperSpeed Swing Speed Challenge (Week 2): Making Gains
Every golfer has new years resolutions, and over at GOLF, a handful of guys are spending the early months of 2020 making good on those. A motley crew of Senior Writer Dylan Dethier, Social Media Editor Tim Reilly, and Zephyr Melton, the new kid at GOLF.com and GOLF Magazine, embarked on SuperSpeed’s six-week Level 1 Training Protocol. After a slight mishap in week one, the crew made some gains in week 2…
LKD (2.2)
Speed training three times a week has been the only time I’ve touched a club over the past fortnight — a recipe, I thought, that would surely allow some flaws to develop in my swing. But the opposite is happening. Swinging hard has actually stripped some of the nonsense out of my swing. It’s not just more powerful now, it’s also more efficient. It’s something I noticed in Tim’s swing recently, too.
When we started doing this swing speed challenge, I expected we’d gain swing speed. I didn’t expect our swings would actually improve along the way.
Zephyr (7.0)
I’m not ashamed to admit it: speed training has become the highlight of my day. Tuesdays and Thursdays just aren’t the same without a trip to the simulator as the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. I feel like I’m starting to see results, too. Plus, I’m learning a bit more about my swing under the watchful eyes of LKD and Dylan (sorry, Tim). It’s cool seeing the speed differences when making a controlled and efficient swing as opposed to getting wild and “chasing” speed. I’m learning that making a good swing will produce more speed than making a hard swing. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a 3 o’clock appointment on the simulator.
Swing Speed Training Aids
SuperSpeed Golf Training System
Over the past few years, the SuperSpeed Golf Training System has become a darling of PGA Tour players, including Phil Mickelson, who says his swing speed jumped four miles per hour in one season with the help of the training aid. Use three weighted clubs with the SuperSpeed’s six-week training program and the company guarantees a minimum five percent jump in swing speed.
