Watch Tony Finau swing all-out chasing a staggering 200 mph ball speed

People talk often about the power of Bubba Watson or Cameron Champ, but for my money, Tony Finau might low-key be the most powerful player on the PGA Tour.

Finau reminds me of another slightly under-the-radar power player in that respect: Davis Love III. Davis wasn’t a short hitter in any sense of the word. But he was a player, like Finau, who used his supreme power and athleticism not by unleashing it fully, but by knowing how to dial it back. Your power gives you the luxury of doing that, all with the knowledge that you have an extra gear, ready to unleash at any given moment.

Davis Love III - Driver Swing

This week, Tony Finau showed us his extra gear.

It was golf coach Peter Finch who shared the video: Finau, on the tee, swinging out of his shoes hard as he tried to surpass 200 mph of ball speed.

He hit two shots: The first with clubhead speed of 137.4 and an agonizing ballspeed of 199.6. The second with a slightly lower swing speed of 136.8, but a higher ball speed of 200 mph because of better contact.

The most interesting thing about the video was seeing how much a player’s swing can change when they’re swinging as hard as they can. In Finau’s case, that means a much longer backswing.

Fun stuff, watch the full video below:
