Watch every one of Jon Rahm’s drives during his victorious final round at the Spanish Open

October 6, 2019

Jon Rahm continued his ascent to the top of the Race to Dubai rankings on the European Tour on Sunday by capturing his second consecutive Mutuactivos Open de España title. Rahm put on a barnstorming performance from tee-to-green throughout the week. He leads the tour in scoring average, and on Sunday, he showed why: Crushing drive after drive, leaving himself in perfect spots en route to a runaway five-shot victory over fellow Spaniard Rafa Cabrera Bello.

You can watch full highlights of his performance off the tee below:

Back in 2017, when Rahm was quickly emerging as one of golf’s brightest young talents, the young Spaniard discussed his swing keys that lead to the kind of performances we saw at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. In short, Rahm focuses on a “short, wide” backswing, and then a quick rotation of the core.

My teacher in Spain used to tell me to let my big muscles do the work. That’s why my backswing turn is powered mostly by my back and shoulders. I never think about moving my hands. Any time I think about purposely moving them, I forget to move my body. That’s when my power goes kaput.
