Hitting a high, spinning bunker shot can be difficult for the recreational golfer. Most players who I see struggle in sand never get in a proper setup position.
Try opening the clubface to where it’s laying like a pancake flat on the sand. Next, stand farther away from the ball than you think you should and squat down, getting your hands low. This address gives you the best chance at hitting a high, soft bunker shot.
The “spinny” part has other factors — size of the sand granules, depth of sand, how fast you can swing and how close to the ball you hit — but if you nail the address, you’ve done your part.
