There was so much emotion from fans and players alike in the aftermath of Tiger Woods’ iconic 2019 Masters win, it’s easy to gloss over how Tiger Woods actually played his way to victory.
Now, we get to hear from Tiger himself courtesy of GolfTV.
It’s a wonderful interview that is well worth your time to watch in its entirety, but if you’re looking for a game-improvement nugget from Tiger’s game, he dropped a fascinating one at the 3:48 mark in the video below.
“I found a swing where I can start drawing the ball.”
He continued…
“Because I don’t have the length I used to have, I can’t hit 3-wood off some of these tees. You saw…down 10 I actually hit driver. I never used to hit driver. But I lost a little bit off my fastball so I have to rely on my driver. And I’ve found something in my game where I feel comfortable turning it. I felt comfortable turning the long irons, 3 wood, 5 wood, driver; but I maintain the ability to hit the slider”
That slider he’s talking about is the little “squeeze fade”, which Hall of Fame Teacher and Director of Instruction at Medalist Golf Club — Tiger Woods’ home course — Mike Adams shed some light on Tiger’s game in the days following the result.
Adams said Tiger hits that fade by getting his arms more across the body on his backswing, and then rotating hard through the ball on the downswing.
It’s a swing feeling that obviously served him well for his bread-and-butter shot. It made his driving more predictable, and helped him win the green jacket at the end of the week.
