Using 2 tees is a clever way to find the low point. Here’s how

Golf teacher Nick Kumpis shows a clever trick that uses two tees to help find the low point of the golf club and improve contact

Just two tees and some practice swings can easily improve your ball-striking.

Want to improve your ball-striking ability? The simplest way is understanding how to engage the club with the turf — which leads to compressing the ball in order to consistently flush your irons.

But before going to the driving range to work on compression, keep things simple and start by finding the club’s low point. When you do this, your contact improves and you have better control of your shots.

While there are tons of drills that can help exaggerate this feeling, instructor Nick Kumpis provides one of the simplest ones I’ve ever seen, and you only really need a club and two tees to give it a try.

An easy drill to improve your ball-striking

In the post above, Kumpis (the Director of Instruction Santa Ana CC), lays two tees down on the ground, with each being the width of the clubface from the center of the ball. This can also be done without a ball, if you’re in a tight space (like a living room).

Next, just set up over your ball as you normally would, making sure you keep your weight on your lead foot in order to maintain good balance in your golf swing. Finally, hit your shot, sending both the ball and the front tee flying, while avoiding any contact with the back tee.

Whether you’re at home or on the range, this easy ball-striking drill is a great way to feel the low point of the club brush the grass. By taking that sensation to your next round, you’ll make better contact and start to see more control with each shot.
