Driver: Callaway Epic Speed (Fujikura Atmos Blue 7X shaft), 9 degrees

Callaway Epic Speed Driver

$529.99
OUR TAKE: It’s good to have options. With Callaway’s new-look Epic Max and Epic Speed, testers found two equally appealing packages: One geared for those who need a bit more forgiveness and another for the better player craving a penetrating launch. “I could put both in the bag,” said a tester. “Both were fantastic on misses, and the flatter flight of the Speed was very consistent. I could totally see myself throwing in a strong-lofted Speed and Max 5-wood to launch it high. That sounds really appealing.” Don’t be surprised if other golfers follow suit. THE DETAILS: While the new Jailbreak system in the driver is sure to garner the most interest, it’s actually not the only club receiving a complete makeover. The Epic fairway woods feature Jailbreak A.I. Velocity Blades that are spread wider apart to stiffen the structure, allowing the C300 maraging steel face cup to flex at impact. The forward CG location on Epic Speed, combined with a new leading-edge design, promotes a strong ball flight with less spin. An oversized head and shallow face make Epic Max an ideal option for a wider handicap range. Launch and spin can be altered depending on where the two sole weights (2 and 14 grams) are positioned. 3 Wood: Callaway Rogue (Mitsubishi Diamana D+ 80TX shaft), 15 degrees

Hybrid: Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 815 (Aldila Tour Blue Hybrid 105TX shaft), 20 degrees

Callaway X Forged CB Irons

$200
“Mr. Efficient” OUR TAKE: Better players will nitpick the way an iron goes through the ground. If it sticks or impacts the ground in an inefficient manner, the hook is imminent. Based on tester feedback, golfers don’t need to worry about this issue with X Forged CB. The subtle sole camber, in particular, received high marks from several eagle-eyed testers who claimed it produced the best turf interaction of any iron they tested. “It’s poetry when club meets golf ball,” said one tester. THE DETAILS: The X Forged CB utilizes a multi-material construction, rather than a one-piece design, to help players achieve distance and consistency. In classic X Forged fashion, though, the new CB still comes in an appealing better-player shape with a head forged from 1025 carbon steel. A “Tour Tune” face delivers faster ball speeds and consistent spin, while the addition of tungsten in the toe section and back weight help dial in swing weight and impact consistency.
