If you’re looking for a golf shoe that functions well in inclement weather, FootJoy’s newly-updated Hyperflex is a real winner.
As an Arizona transplant, my days of bad weather are blessedly few. But this winter — and now spring — has been rainier than most, and instead of the expected 80-degree spring training weather people flock here to experience, Tuesday at last week’s LPGA Drive On Championship at Superstition Mountain was wet and dreary.
That didn’t stop me from attending, since we had some content to capture, but it did give me pause when it came to my footwear. What’s the best shoe for rain? I honestly didn’t know — but had a new pair of unworn FootJoy Hyperflex shoes waiting for me, so I decided to give them a go.
The first thing I noticed was the striking gray color, featured in the photo above. I’m generally a low-key shoe person, and favor solid white or black. But these babies are louder and prouder than what I usually wear — and looked really cool! They also have out-of-the-box comfort, which is much appreciated, because who has time to break in a shoe these days?
The toe box is roomy and the whole shoe feels nice on the foot — no crushing pressure points to be found. There’s additional padding around the ankle and the underfoot padding even molds to the contours of your feet over time.
But the most appreciated feature for me was the breathable, waterproof performance-knit upper. Hours of walking in wet grass and standing in the rain resulted in completely dry feet by the day’s end — huzzah!
