Ping’s latest putter release is one to remember

Each "Ping Slam" collection comes in a special display case. The package also includes a PLD Custom putter built to your specifications.

Ping

The “Ping Slam” comes to a close at the end of this month. For those who are unfamiliar with the phrase, here’s a refresher: In 1988, Ping made history as the last equipment manufacturer to claim all four major championships in the same calendar year with a singular putter brand.

To celebrate the equipment feat, Ping released 88 precision-milled versions of the four major-winning models this year around the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open and Open Championship. As expected, the putters went quickly — even with a $990 price tag.

Most collectors weren’t able to nab all four, which proved to be a bit of a downer for those with deep pockets willing to spend nearly $4K for the entire “Ping Slam” collection.

If you’re interested in picking up the collection all at once, Ping’s solution will drop on Tuesday (2 p.m. on pingpld.com) in the form of 35 special “Ping Slam collections” comprised of all four heads (Zing 2, Pal, Pal 2 and Anser) in a custom-designed table-top display case (18″ x 18″).

“We’re excited to offer golfers this special opportunity to be part of the ‘Ping Slame’ celebration,” said John A. Solheim, Ping’s Executive Chairman. “The detail and precision of the putters and the craftsmanship of the display makes for a stunning presentation. It’s an attention-getting, conversation-starting addition to any golfer’s home or office.

“It’s been a lot of fun this year looking back to 1988 and celebrating our remarkable success that year at the major championships. The response of our loyal customers has been tremendous as each of the models has sold out very quickly. It’s been a great way to pay tribute to my father Karsten’s success while celebrating an accomplishment that remains unmatched.”

While the putters and case might be enough to justify the price for some, Ping is upping the ante with a bonus add-on: a PLD Custom putter experience (valued at $1,490) that includes a milled PLD built to specifications, along with a fitting session with a Ping master fitter at either the company’s Ping Putting Lab in Phoenix, Arizona or virtually.

For golfers who’ve been especially good this year, this could make for an all-time holiday gift.
