Only 55 Anser Patent 55 Copper putters will be made available.

Ping

Those familiar with Ping’s storied history likely recall the equipment manufacturer once created some of its most iconic iron, wedge and putter designs from a buttery-soft copper.

The material was eventually phased out from Ping’s lineup, but with the Anser putter celebrating its 55th anniversary, it only seems fitting to see a copper version return to the spotlight.

The third of four fully machined, limited-edition PLD Anser Patent 55 putters — the first two were made from aluminum bronze and stainless-steel — will indeed be made from copper as a tribute to Arizona’s deep history as the country’s leading producer of copper.

Only 55 of the precision-milled, handcrafted copper putters, which are serialized, will be available. As you’d expect for an extremely limited run, the Anser Patent 55 putters haven’t lasted long. In fact, the first two lasted less than 180 seconds.

“The celebration of the Anser patent’s 55th anniversary has been very exciting and rewarding,” said Ping executive chairman John A. Solheim. “It’s generated renewed interest in the Anser story and shed deserving light on its game-changing role in putter engineering and the continued influence it has on putter designs today.

“The first two versions of the Anser Patent 55 sold out in less than three minutes, so we’re encouraging those interested to be ready promptly when we make them available on Monday. Several golfers have acquired the first two versions and we expect they’ll be ready on Monday to add to their collection in hopes of collecting all four.”

Offered through Ping’s PLD website (pingpld.com) beginning Monday (Sept. 26), only 55 PLD Anser Patent 55 copper putters will be available for $790 (limit one per customer).
