Phil Mickelson just announced a unique club setup for the U.S. Open

May 30, 2019

Phil Mickelson is the king of social media. He keeps proving it, over and over again, and he just did once again on Thursday ahead of the Memorial Tournament.

Speaking softly into the camera from the comfort of his sofa, Phil talked about all manner of things. Bubba Watson’s chest hair (obviously) and his need to hit BOMBS at the U.S. Open.

Turns out, he’s got a plan for that.

With the U.S. Open in just two weeks, Mickelson announced via his Instagram account that he plans to employ the use of not one, but two Callaway Epic Flash drivers for the third major of the year at Pebble Beach. One is for hitting “cute cuts,” and the other is to hit “bombs.”

Of course, while it is a major announcement that he’ll be putting two drivers into play, it’s not a unique announcement. Mickelson put two drivers into play en-route to victory at the 2006 Masters, and will surely be hoping for a similar result at Pebble.
