Lately, all the rage has been over zero-torque putters and Bettinardi is adding fuel to the fire with its latest releases, the Antidote SB1 and Antidote SB2.
For those unfamiliar, zero-torque putters have been taking the golf world by storm thanks to a design that places the center of gravity (CG) in the center of the putter head and directly below the shaft axis. This creates a putter that is averse to twisting and naturally tends to stay on path throughout the stroke without manipulation from the player.
Because of this, zero-torque putters will naturally balance with the toe up, as opposed to toe hang or face balancing.
While this isn’t the first time Bettinardi has ventured into the zero-torque space, with the Antidote line their team has created two models, the Antidote SB1 blade and the Antidote SB2 mallet putter.
“The new Antidote putter series is the result of two years of dedicated work, involving countless prototypes to perfect every detail,” said Bettinardi president Sam Bettinardi in a release. “With our Simply Balanced technology, golfers can maintain square-to-square balance throughout the entire stroke, enhancing consistency and confidence. Each putter embodies the signature Bettinardi Golf look and feel, ensuring that players experience not just performance, but the pure craftsmanship we are known for.”
Both putters, and their counterbalanced versions, feature Bettinardi’s F.I.T. (Feel Impact Technology) face milling, which is designed for a softer feel at impact while maintaining responsiveness. A diamond blast finish helps to reduce glare at address while the body of the SB2 and insert of the SB1 are done in a sapphire blue finish to create visual contrast.
As is typical for zero-torque putters, the shaft enters the head with a negative offset, forcing the player to start the stroke in a forward press, avoiding any face opening that happens when players do it just before the stroke.
Both the SB1 and SB2 are available for preorder in standard and counterbalanced configurations now on Bettinardi.com and Fairway Jockey for $430. The new putters are scheduled to be officially released on Jan. 24, 2025.
