InsideGOLF: +$140 Value
Just $39.99There are gear nerds on the PGA Tour, and then there are guys like Max Greyserman.
Greyserman was the guest on this week’s episode of GOLF’s Fully Equipped podcast and went in depth with host Johnny Wunder of how he got so deeply into golf equipment.
From their days working together at Callaway, Wunder said that while many players are constantly on the Tour trucks tinkering with gear and usually never amount to much, Greyserman has found success with his gearhead ways.
A PGA Tour pro, and a gear-nerd friendship that started in my DMsBy: Johnny Wunder
“Usually, when you’re labeled a tester, it means that you’re testing to fail, meaning like this guy’s never gonna make it. Like he’s just, he’s down the rabbit hole,” Wunder said. “The fun thing about this is that you have the confidence of the Korn Ferry reps when you were on Korn Ferry.
“You’re the first gearhead of your generation that I know that’s actually been successful.”
Greyserman explained that his gear journey started when he was in his teens and he was just trying to find any little thing that could make his game better.
“So I just started to go down the, I would say, GolfWRX forums because they had like what’s in the bag pics on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays,” he said. “So when I was in high school, I would click ‘what’s in the bag.’ What’s in, I don’t know, Phil Mickelson had in the bag on Tuesday. The shelf used to open. So I would click on that and I would just scroll down the pictures and just be curious of what good players are using. Maybe I should be playing what good players are playing.”

It wasn’t long before Greyserman realized that the better he played, the more clubs, shafts, grips and other things he could have access to to try out as he was added to junior staffs and then eventually when got to college.
“I kind of found my comfort zone a little bit and I tweaked with it,” he said. “And so, you know, Callaway has been a great, great supportive sponsor, always willing to push boundaries and post new products, whether it’s the same head and just put a little bit of glue up front here or there to fit my needs. And they’ve been world-class and I’ve really enjoyed my time being with them.”
