U.S. Open 2019: Titleist begins Tour seeding process for 620 MB, 620 CB and T100 irons at Pebble Beach

June 10, 2019

For the second year in a row, the U.S. Open will mark the beginning of Titleist’s tour seeding and validation process for a soon-to-be-released retail product. Following the launch of Titleist’s TS Series drivers at Shinnecock, in 2018, the company unveiled three new iron models this week at Pebble Beach: 620 CB, 620 MB and T100.

“The three new iron models follow the successful introduction of the new TS2 and TS3 hybrids and U-500 and U-510 utility irons at the recent Memorial Tournament,” said a Titleist representative in a statement. “Validating product performance across the worldwide professional tours is a critical step in the development of all high performance Titleist golf equipment.

“Titleist Tour Representatives and members of the Titleist Golf Club R&D team will be on site at Pebble Beach, fitting players into the three different iron models and gathering additional feedback.”

Titleist appears to be shaking up its flagship products across the board after it replaced the 900 Series woods with TS last year. While nothing is official, it would appear something similar is in the works for the AP iron line, which currently consists of 718 AP1, AP2 and AP3.

The 620 CB and MB look to be direct replacements for 718 CB and MB while T100 could be the “new AP2.” All three have the word “Forged” stamped on the hosel, an indication these models were designed with the better player in mind.

Titleist has released 600 Series irons in the past, most recently with the 695 CB and MB Forged, but it’s unclear if any connections exist to the old iron lineup.

For now, we wait and see if anyone is willing to switch irons the week of a major championship — at Pebble Beach.
