FIRST LOOK: Titleist’s new T400 irons, built for ‘super distance’

January 20, 2020

Just last week, Titleist announced that it’s extending the T-Series family of irons with all-new T100•S irons, which are made with stronger lofts for more distance.

Now, Titleist is extending the T-Series line again, this time with new T400 irons. Compared to the rest of the irons in the family, the T400 irons are built to be the longest, highest launching, and most forgiving.

To help game-improvement golfers perform better and hit the ball longer, Titleist threw the kitchen of technologies into the T400 irons. The irons have hollow-body constructions, bigger profiles, a low CG (center of gravity) with up to 100 grams of Tungsten per head, and what Titleist calls “super thin” face constructions. They also have a wide body shape and a split-sole design to help provide optimal turf interaction, according to Titleist.

The result is an iron that will help golfers with moderate swing speeds hit the ball higher and farther, even when they strike the ball off-center.

“T400 is the super distance Titleist iron. This club is engineered to get the ball in the air and launch it as far as possible, even when the strike isn’t perfect,” said Josh Talge, Titleist’s Vice President of Marketing, in a press release. “There are so many golfers, particularly players with moderate swing speeds, who can benefit from this technology. T400 gets the absolute most out of your swing while still providing the playability of a Titleist iron along with that look, sound and feel that dedicated players demand.”

Additionally, Titleist’s T400 irons are equipped with lightweight stock shaft and grip options to help further increase speed. The stock steel shaft is True Temper’s AMT Red, and the stock graphite shaft is Mitsubishi’s Fubuki MV IR. The stock grip is Golf Pride’s Tour Velvet 360 Lite+, which weighs in at just 43 grams.

Titleist’s new T400 irons will hit retail shops on March 27, and they will sell for $185.50 per club ($1,299 per 7-piece set) in steel and $199.50 per club ($1,399 per 7-piece set) in graphite.
