Mizuno launches new JPX 919 irons with three different models

August 29, 2018

Since Mizuno irons were number one on Tour back in the 90’s, anchored by Nick Faldo, Tiger Woods, and numerous others who appreciated the buttery forged feel of the MP-14 and MP-29 models, purists have held the brand in exceptionally high esteem.

But when the company introduced the JPX line a few years back, some questioned the look of the matte finish and where the new sticks fit in with the vaunted MP line.

Since then however, the JPX 900 models, most notable the Forged Tour, have been a huge hit with all kinds of players including two-time US Open champ Brooks Koepka.

Now Mizuno is launching a newly revamped JPX 919 line with a traditional look and impressive technologies that make the three new models worth a serious look for players of all handicap levels.

JPX 919 TOUR

$1200 / 8-piece set

Aimed at low-handicappers and pros, the 919 Tour model replaces the 900 Tour, a.k.a. the Brooks Koepka model, and features an improved shape with a bit thinner topline that the many Tour players who game the iron prefer. A new, more durable Pearl Brush finish reduces glare while providing a bit more refined look than the previous matte finish.

As one would expect from a Mizuno blade, the 919 Tour features a Grain Flow Forged HD (high density) construction from1025 Elite carbon steel for the soft, responsive feel aficionados demand. A “stability frame,” design strengthens the toe and topline while optimizing perimeter weighting for improved performance on mis-hits, while a more neutral CG location that’s closer to the center of the face improves performance on center strikes.

The JPX 919 Tour is available in 3-PW in right hand only and can be fitted with a wide variety of premium no-upcharge shafts and grips.

JPX 919 FORGED

$1300 / 8-piece set

A versatile iron that can fit a wide variety of players from pros to better weekend warriors, the 919 Forged fits snugly between the Tour and Hot Metal models. Built with the same Grain Flow Forged HD method as the Tour, the Forged is made from Boron infused steel, which is approximately 30% stronger than carbon steel. This extra degree of strength allows for a thinner, more flexible clubface and enhanced ball speed at impact. The thinner clubface along with a new hidden micro-slot in the sole not only increases COR but also expands the effective hitting area across a larger area. The micro-slot also allows for more weight to be redistributed for a lower and deeper CG location, yielding improved launch on mid and long iron shots.

Like the Tour, the Forged also features a “stability frame” design with a stronger toe area and topline for increased stability on off-center hits and a new, more durable Pearl Brush finish.

The JPX 919 Forged is available in 4-GW in both right and left hand options with a wide variety of premium no-upcharge shafts and grips.

JPX 919 HOT METAL

$1000 / 8-piece set

Made for players that demand solid Mizuno looks and feel with enhanced forgiveness and distance, the new 919 Hot Metal is a progressive set with slightly larger long and mid irons and more compact short irons and wedges.

A significant key to the Hot Metal design is the use of stronger and more expensive Chromoly rather than carbon steel in the manufacturing process. The stronger material allows for a multi-thickness cup face for more ball speed and distance than the previous 900 Hot Metal as well as redesigned sound ribs in the cavity for precisely tuned vibration and feel at impact.

Other features of the new Hot Metal include the aforementioned “stability frame,” design for higher MOI and improved launch as well as Mizuno’s new Pearl Brush non-glare finish.

The JPX 919 Hot Metal is available in 4-LW in both right and left hand options with a wide variety of premium no-upcharge shafts and grips. All three new JPX 919 irons are available through Mizuno’s Performance Fitting System and can be mixed and matched depending on individual player needs and preferences.
