FIRST LOOK: PXG offers opportunity to reserve a set of 0311 ST irons

August 12, 2019

One of the perks of owning a PGA Tour card is having access to equipment not yet available at retail. The latest example is Ryan Moore’s PXG 0311 ST (“Super Tour”) irons. On the hunt for a set that worked the ball with a higher spin rate and controlled launch, Moore tested a set of prototype blades that checked every box.

“When we invited Ryan to try our new milled irons as part of the development process, we couldn’t pry them out of his hands,” said PXG founder Bob Parsons.

Considered a Tour-only prototype for the last three months, Moore’s 0311 ST irons have the look of a true muscle-back blade, with a compact blade length, thin topline, minimal offset and narrow sole.

“I love the new PXG milled irons,” Moore said. “They feel incredible, and I have the ability to work the ball exactly how I want to on every shot.”

Each iron is 100-percent milled from a triple-forged billet of 8620 carbon steel that gives the head a soft feel at impact while extending the life of the grooves over time. A nickel-chrome (NiCr) plating eliminates the opportunity for corrosion while also reducing glare at address.

The 0311 ST marks the first “pure tour blade” designed by PXG. The equipment manufacturer has made a name for itself in recent years by designing irons that combine the look of a muscle-back blade with a hollow cavity containing a high-speed polymer — along with an ultra-thin face — for ball speed purposes.

While the 0311 ST head lacks a hollow cavity, it does feature seven tungsten screws along the perimeter of head that improve heel-toe forgiveness.

For the moment, PXG is offering the opportunity to reserve a set of 0311 ST irons ($650 club). The clubs are expected to ship in late September.
