5 important dates in the history of Titleist’s iconic Pro V1 golf ball

It’s been almost 20 years since the first Pro V1 hit the golf course. The stratospheric rise of Titleist’s flagship golf ball model to the top of the market didn’t happen by accident (although it did happen virtually overnight).

Here are 5 important dates in the history of the game’s most famous golf ball.

October 2000: Pro V1’s first victory

Billy Andrade wins the Invensys Classic—the first-ever win by a Pro V1 player.

March 2001: Pro V1 takes over

Becomes best-selling golf ball in the marketplace. It’s been the best-selling golf ball every month since then.

June 2001: Pro V1 major breakthrough

Retief Goosen wins the 2001 U.S. Open at Southern Hills. It’s the first of 39 majors for Pro V1 on the PGA Tour (including Gary Woodland’s recent triumph at Pebble Beach).

Though he missed this putt to fall into a playoff, Retief Goosen won the 2001 U.S. Open to give the Pro V1 its first major title.
