Asics has been in the golf shoe game for a few years now, and via a unique collab with Srixon, it has churned out several different golf shoe models that promise running shoe-like comfort and performance.
Better-resembling kicks made for logging miles on the pavement, the trail or depending on where you work, walking to and from your desk to the break room, the new Srixon-Asics Gel-Kayano Ace ($169.99) might be the brand’s best golf-meets-running shoe yet.
At first glance the spikeless Gel-Kayano Ace looks nothing like a golf shoe and frankly, if not for a rugged outsole specifically designed for golf, we wouldn’t categorize it as such.
It’s worth noting, one of Asics’ most popular running shoes is the Gel-Kayano, a running shoe renowned for having cloudlike cushioning and comfort. The foundation of the golf shoe model is very much the same, built with Asics FlyteFoam for lightweight shock absorption and Asics Gel technology under the heel for maximum cushioning.
The upper of the shoe is made of a flexible mesh paired with a waterproof lining for both breathability and waterproofing characteristics. You can see on the heel there’s a pronounced TPU cradle to provide a supportive fit in an area where golfers need it, lessening heel slippage during the swing.
And lastly, the FG traction sole is carefully configured with a pattern on each shoe to provide maximum directional traction during the golf swing, while at the same time remaining flexible in key areas for maximum comfort and slip resistance while walking the golf course.
For you runners out there, this might be the shoe you need to mix your penchant for running and playing a quick nine — at the same time.
The Gel-Kayano Ace comes in four color combinations: White/Midnight; Metropolis/Gunmetal; Glacier Grey/Pure Silver; and White/White. You can find it at retailers on April 1, 2022.
