Puma unveils Ignite Proadapt shoe (with help from Rickie Fowler)

February 27, 2019

Puma Golf’s new Ignite Proadapt have Rickie Fowler’s fingerprints all over them. The recent Waste Management Phoenix Open winner debuted the shoes earlier this season after collaborating with Puma on the design — specifically, a redesigned full-grain leather upper that provides the 30-year-old with even more support and stability during the swing.

“Rickie was involved from the earliest stages of design, expressing his desire for an upper that provides a ton of support with premium styling,” said Andrew Lawson, Puma Golf’s footwear product line manager. “Better players will love these shoes as they offer comfort, maximum stability, ground traction and motion control through your golf swing.”

In addition to the leather upper, a dual-layer, decoupled adaptive fit system employs a full-grain leather material with a molded comfort collar to give the shoe a “high-end” look with the comfort of a trainer. A soft, supportive polyurethane insole provides a customized fit while Puma’s Ignite foam increases the shoe’s overall level of comfort with stable cushioning and step-in comfort designed to curtail the “break-in period.”

A pro-form TPU outsole compound, which supplies grip and abrasion resistance on all surfaces, works in tandem with the company’s dual talon, low-profile Tornado cleats to keep the shoe grounded during the swing. The cleats can be swapped out using Puma’s Fast Twist 3.0 system.

Puma’s Ignite Proadapt ($200) comes in three colorways (white/gray violet, black/dark shadow and gray violet/white) with a one-year waterproof warranty and is currently available for pre-order on the company’s website. They hit retail on March 13. Several limited edition versions will also be introduced throughout the season, beginning at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship.
