Jan Craig headcovers are truly an American original. They’re family-owned and hand-knit in the USA since 1962. These spunky headcovers quickly became a preferred equipment accessory for tour professionals and club players alike. You’ve seen Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Nelly Korda and tons of other pros protecting their clubs with these covers.
Jan Craig helped popularize the ever-so-classic knit pom-pom headcover style which we all still know and love today. Now, you can customize your own original headcover for any and every club you own.
I’ll walk you through the simple and fun process of designing a Jan Craig headcover. If you’d rather go ahead and start creating your own, here’s the link.
Keep scrolling to learn more and see the two driver headcovers that I designed as examples. I’ll also show you the hybrid headcover I customized and ordered for myself. Spoiler alert, they’re all super cute.
First of all, each and every headcover starts with a ball of yarn. You’ll begin designing your set of headcovers by selecting the type of cover you’d like to design. There’s a choice for every type of club.
Next, you’ll select either a pom or a tassel. The poms come in 5 inches and 8 inches (they say the 8-inch is the most popular pom). Then, you’ll select your sleeve and pom colors. There are an incredible almost 40 colors from which to choose. For the pom, there are the following 4 options: 1 color, 2 colors, 3 colors and 2 colors with flecks. You can get pretty creative here.
Additionally, you get to choose the option to add stripes, initials and/or numbers. For stripes, you can choose 1-7 stripes of one color or alternating colors. You can even add 2 extra inches to the sleeve if you’d like.
If those options aren’t enough customization for your taste, there’s always the option to contact the Jan Craig team to place a special order for a design of your choosing. Since every headcover from Jan Craig is hand-knitted from a ball of yarn, they can pretty much make anything you can imagine. Their knitters can do it all.
Once you’ve completed all the steps to design your first cover, you can easily add more covers to complete your set, add different covers or start a new set.
Be aware, these customized headcovers can have up to a 6-week turnaround time (probably because everyone wants one). It’s worth the wait. But, if you’d rather get your headcover more quickly, you may want to check out their ready-to-buy headcovers which are already designed and ready to ship. I’ll show you a few examples of pre-made headcovers below with links to purchase. You can also shop for those here.
