Golf apparel and equipment often dominate the conversation regarding golf retail, but the world of golf accessories is as exciting as those of its more mainstream counterparts. Golf accessories are a broad and fascinating segment of golf merchandise.

It’s all about the accessories

Other than playing the game of golf, walking into a golf shop is among the golfer’s greatest joys. A new golf shirt, the latest wedge, or a slew of awesome golf accessories are all at your fingertips. Some are common, like gloves and headwear, while others are unique, like the monogrammed scorecard holder we highlighted here.

What excites you most about visiting your local pro shop or that big box golf retailer across town? Did we cover it here? There’s so much out there that the odds are we didn’t. But we hope our golf accessory guide will help you narrow down your search.

How to pick the right golf accessories for you

Shopping for golf accessories is a personal choice. Are you a techie? A traditionalist? A tinkerer? Do you grab something from the shop with every new golf course played? These are all questions that will dictate your golf accessory buying habits. Budget is a whole other issue. Golf doesn’t have to break the bank. There’s a lot out there for almost any budget — so enjoy the experience!

Are you a techie?

Rangefinders and GPS watches are taking golfers’ games to the next level. After all, knowing your distance to the hole and what danger lies ahead is the key to navigating your way around 18 holes of golf. And it’s not just about the devices. Technology is built into the clothes and shoes we wear, the clubs we play, and even how we get around the course. It’s a good time to be a techie golfer!

Are you a traditionalist?

Divot tools, ball markers, gloves, headwear, and belts are all ideal golf accessories. Their price points are often more conducive to the everyday golfer’s budget, which is why we made sure to include them on our list. Why not give them a try?

Are you a tinkerer?

New grips aren’t always for the golfers who need them. Some golfers just like to tinker. There are many different golf balls to try, sunglasses to sample, alignment sticks to catch your eye, and scorecard holders to call your own. When you find something you like, go all in. But until then, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with tinkering and finding something new. Enjoy!

FAQ

What do golfers need the most?

Golfers want a lot of cool items and accessories like those mentioned in our list. However, they need balls, clubs, gloves, tees, and the proper attire for the course they’re playing on.

What golf clubs should the average golfer carry?

The rules of golf allow for 14 clubs per round. Most golfers’ skill levels don’t warrant that need. Most average golfers can play a round of golf with a driver, fairway wood or hybrid, odd or even numbered irons, a 56-degree wedge, and a putter. Try it someday. You’ll enjoy the experience.

Does golf equipment matter?

Golf equipment does matter. Remember the technology that we highlighted earlier. Golf manufacturers have spent a lot of time and money to add the best technology to their offerings, and you can tell the difference with each shot taken. Take up the game with a nice box set or preowned set you found online but strive to get better — and as your skills improve, so too should your equipment.
