Shaft Spotlight: What you need to know about the Aldila Rogue Silver 130 M.S.I. shaft

February 28, 2019

Each week, GOLF equipment editor Jonathan Wall chats with reps on the PGA Tour to give you the lowdown on driver shafts that are generating buzz — be it a Tour-only model or profile already at retail. This week, Jonathan covers the Aldila Rogue Silver 130 M.S.I. shaft.

Name: Aldila Rogue Silver 130 M.S.I.

Status: Offered at retail for $450

Profile: Low launch and spin

Weights: 61-82 grams (TR-TX flexes)

The lowdown: One of the first shafts to utilize petroleum-based carbon fiber in their design, the latest Rogue Silver incorporates a high balance point and stronger 130 M.S.I. graphitic carbon fiber in the tip-section to knock down spin and flatten launch. The ion-plated finish gives the shaft a sleek look.

Buzz from Tour: “One of the things we wanted to do was try and tighten dispersion, flatten flight, lower spin. Just kind of taking a very proven tour profile and improve upon it. The 130 material is very brittle, so we put it in strategic spots within the shaft where it benefits the profile the most. The addition of that material helped us achieve the improvements we were looking to make. Due to Rogue’s strong reputation on tour, there’s been a lot of interest in the part. With today’s ball technology and the rise in higher swing speed players, particularly on tour, there’s always going to be a place for a shaft with a low flight and spin profile.” — Zane Nuttall, Mitsubishi’s sales and product development program manager
