Callaway and Ping became the first two dominos to fall by sponsoring LIV Golf teams earlier this season. But these two announcements have our Fully Equipped team wondering…who is next?
On this week’s episode of GOLF’s Fully Equipped, co-host Johnny Wunder made his guess that Cleveland/Srixon would be the next company to partner with a LIV Golf team, but the team agreed that one company would be perfect to make a move too.
“What about Cobra?” co-host Kris McCormack asked Wunder as he was rattling off other potential brands. “Think Cobra will get in the mix?”
Cobra is in the unique position to sponsor a LIV team as none of its current staff players are on LIV Golf right now. The two partnerships that have been announced thus far, Callaway and Ping, made sense because three of the four players on Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII team played Callaway clubs while all four of Joaquin Niemann’s Torque GC players were already outfitted with Ping gear.
Cobra doesn’t have that presence on LIV yet, but Wunder thought they would be a great fit.

“I think LIV, for Cobra, is the perfect environment for their product, for their vibe,” Wunder said. “Like, it’s fast moving, it’s young. Like that to me is kind of the Cobra vibe and you kind of get that vibe when you see their equipment.”
Since being purchased from Titleist parent company Acushnet by Puma, Cobra has taken on a younger vibe and approach, along with groundbreaking tech, which would mesh well with LIV Golf’s “Golf, but Louder” tagline.
They also have an advantage of not being tethered to a traditional, decades-long legacy like other brands might.
“They’re not a huge aircraft carrier, they’re more of a battleship, right?” Wunder said. “For them to pivot and do something cool, you’re not changing six years’ worth of production plans or marketing plans to do it like some of these other companies are. Cobra’s still pretty nimble.”
