Ben Griffin and Andrew Novak each broke through for their first PGA Tour wins Sunday at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

At the PGA Tour’s only team event, the two players combined to finish 28 under par across two days of foursomes and two days of four-ball play, edging the team of Nicolai and Rasmus Hojgaard by just a shot.

For Griffin, the win was historic as Griffin is currently the only player on the PGA Tour playing Maxlfi golf balls and picked up the first win on the PGA Tour for the brand since 2003. Griffin signed an endorsement contract with the company, which is now owned by Dick’s Sporting Goods, last season and plays the Maxfli Tour X golf ball.

“Lexi drew my interest to the ball initially,” Griffin told GOLF in 2024. “I saw she was playing it and my caddie, [Alex Ritthamel], who used to caddie for Lexi’s brother Curtis, thought I should at least test out the Maxfli to see how it performed. A few months passed and I finally got my hands on some. I did some preliminary testing but wasn’t planning on doing much with the ball.

‘It was a no-brainer’: Inside a Tour pro’s surprising gear deal
By: Jonathan Wall

“It was roughly 8 yards additional during preliminary testing,” Griffin said. “Around the green, I didn’t see a ton of differences across balls. That’s when the distance side really started to intrigue me. There are certain weeks out here when distance has kind of turned into a priority.”

Not only did Griffin use the Maxfli ball during the fourball play, Novak also played the ball during the two days of foursomes (alternate shot), including Sunday’s final round.

“We want to congratulate Ben Griffin and Andrew Novak on their first wins on the PGA Tour,” Ed Stack, Executive Chairman of Dick’s, told GOLF in a statement. “We are so proud to have Ben exclusively playing the Maxfli Tour X ball. Ben’s been on a remarkable journey and it was great to see it culminate in a win today. We can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next.”

Both players play the irons and wedges of their main equipment sponsor, with Griffin opting for Mizuno’s new Pro S-3 irons and Pro T-1 wedges. Novak plays a combo set of Srixon ZX7 Mk II and Z-Forged irons with Cleveland RTZ wedges.

The pair both share a the selection of Ping drivers with Griffin playing the ultra forgiving Ping G430 Max 10k and Novak choosing the new G440 LST.

Keep reading below for complete specs for both Griffin and Novak.

TaylorMade Milled Grind 4 Custom Wedge

TaylorMade Milled Grind 4 Custom Wedge

Milled Grind 4 utilizes laser etched Spin Tread and a raw face to provide better bite around the greens and superior spin in wet conditions. Refined shaping creates a smooth aesthetic that inspires creativity around the greens, while improved mass distribution provides a solid feel. IMPROVED SPIN IN WET CONDITIONS Spin Tread technology utilizes laser etching to channel away moisture and help retain spin in wet conditions. The same way that tire treads help your car stay connected to the road, Spin Tread redirects water at impact and creates more friction between the club face and golf ball to impart more spin than prior generations. REFINED SHAPING MG4 features refinements in shape and visual appeal with a focus on what players perceive at address. Details from the hosel blend, offset and leading-edge straightness were all inspired by the insights and preferences of the best players and most experienced designers. Compared to the previous MG3, MG4 showcases a slightly larger footprint that provides players with a sense of roundness, smoothness and improved ease of use. RAW FACE & NEW FINISH There’s a reason raw wedges are preferred by the game’s best players. The unplated material will rust over time to preserve consistent spin while also delivering better performance in wet conditions. A new refined finish with a slightly darker tint minimizes glare and blends seamlessly with the raw face for a unified appearance.

It’s softer, lighter, and remarkably durable. It gives RTZ Wedges superior feel, better forgiveness, and more consistency. On RTZ Tour Rack Wedges, Z-Alloy’s rust-resistant properties ensure longer-lasting, like-new performance.  HydraZip HydraZip is a unique system of face blasts and laser-milled lines formulated to maximize spin performance under wet conditions. This technology is dynamically configured by loft groupings, which helps balance spin across lofts, while maximizing spin in adverse conditions.  ZipCore This low-density core technology replaces heavier material in the heel and hosel area with a lightweight, low-density, vibration-dampening material. This proprietary core allows us to shift the Center of Gravity closer to where you strike the ball, while simultaneously adding MOI.  UltiZip UltiZip’s sharper grooves cut through grass and debris at contact, while deeper grooves help make space for grass, sand, dirt, or water to clear the impact zone, giving RTZ Wedges stronger, more consistent spin from the fairway, rough, or bunker.
