The 5 coolest clubs we saw at the PGA Championship Wednesday

On the final day of preparation for the PGA Championship, pros mostly have their clubs set for the week.

Wednesday is also the day Tour trucks depart from events, even majors, eager to get to the next Tour stop, which means players are making last-minute adjustments before it’s go time.

Here are the five coolest things we saw on Wednesday at Quail Hollow before the start of the 2025 PGA Championship.

Nicolai Hojgaard’s Odyssey Ai-ONE Giraffe Beam Jailbird Mini

This Odyssey Giraffe-Beam pictured at the top was built up for Nicolai Hojgaard to take home and test after this week. Hojgaard was looking for something face-balanced while keeping the JB look he likes. Only three Giraffe-Beam heads, which have a longer hosel to move the axis to the middle of the putter face and achieve a similar zero torque feel, were brought to Quail Hollow this week, and Odyssey Tour Rep Cody Hale had to fend off the requests from interested players. Everybody loves the sauce.

Jhonattan Vegas’ Artisan Golf irons

Ever since Nike Golf closed down shop and Mike Taylor opened Artisan Golf out of the facility formerly known as the Oven in Fort Worth, they’ve been pumping out beautiful, custom-made wedges and putters, but irons have been a little harder to come by.

But last year’s 3M Open winner, Jhonattan Vegas put a custom set of Artisan muscle back blades in the bag last month after his Mizuno MP-4s he used last year wore out. Vegas turning to Artisan should come as no surprise, seeing as though the four-time winner was a Nike staffer earlier in his career.

Logan Olson’s putters have been showing up on Tour in greater numbers and especially in the hands of TaylorMade staffers after the brand’s recent acquisition by the OEM.

Olesen’s wand is beautiful, no doubt, but it’s the wear mark that gets me going. The man has put some work in on the greens, especially considering that the putter can’t be that old!

Cam Smith’s Titleist GT280 Mini Driver

Club changes aren’t that common at major championships, but Cam Smith is on the verge of an interesting one.

The 2022 Open Championship winner had a Titleist GT280 built for him last week with a Fujikura Ventus TR Red 7X, and he tested it thoroughly and appears poised to put it in play this week. However, from what we’re hearing, there is a chance Smith could still default back to a standard wood setup.

Sahith Theegala’s new Ping S159 lob wedge

Sahith Theegala wanted a wedge with a little less bounce and less offset, so the reps on the Ping Tour truck devised a solution involving a Ping 159 62-degree.

The idea was to take a 62-degree wedge and strengthen it to 59 degrees, removing bounce and offset. But since Theegala wouldn’t love seeing “62” printed on the sole, they needed to regrind the sole to retain the Ping T-grind characteristics and remove the loft stamping.

That’s not shocking given that Theegala is pretty sensitive to whatever is printed on the clubhead. He carries two 8-irons because he hates to see 7-iron printed. Thus, Ping created the 59ST for Theegala this week.

Unfortunately, though, Theegala withdrew from play Wednesday afternoon.
