Mike Strantz worked with a smaller budget here than at his more famous sibling design at Tobacco Road, but that didn’t keep him from pushing boundaries. Trees and rock outcroppings dominate this rollercoaster terrain, and the greens are some of Strantz’s most outrageous. It all adds up to one of the expressionistic designer’s most visually extreme creations. From the tips, the slope is a grinding 138, and some say the course is too hard. Others — including Tom Doak — say it doesn’t play as tough as it looks. Strantz once said it was the best course he ever built. Play it for yourself and make up your own mind.
