Young Tiger at Torrey, Scheffler restores order before a sweet moment | Rogers Report

SAN DIEGO — Hello, friends, and welcome to this week’s Rogers Report, where I’m writing to you from a very rainy and cold Torrey Pines. This is my fourth year attending the Genesis Invitational but my very first time at Torrey Pines, which I’m learning is a quite the walk, especially in this weather. My producer, Emma Devine, and I flew from Boston to San Diego on Monday (a flight that I had forgotten is about seven hours long) and filmed a few episodes of the Scoop with players in the field this week.

Thursday was our first free day to really roam the course, which we did despite the rain and wet socks.

The pro shop

I made my way into the pro shop here at Torrey Pines on Wednesday, and for once, the thing that stuck out to me the most wasn’t an overpriced but really comfortable pullover. This time, it was a gallery wall tucked away in a far corner of the shop, where there were a handful of photos of Tiger Woods as a young junior golfer.

The photos of him are amazing. I found out Woods was sporting literal tiger merchandise on the course decades before the inception of Sun Day Red. I know that SDR recreated an old Tiger look back in 2024, and I’m inviting them to do the same with these throwback Tiger outfits.

So Sun Day Red, if you’re reading this: please bring back that yellow T-shirt. The internet would explode

Honoring Kultida Woods

Tiger’s mom, Kultida, is being honored with a white flag on the seventh hole at the Genesis Invitational this week. Kultida was Buddhist, where white symbolizes purity, wisdom and longevity, and the number seven represents the seven factors of enlightenment.

What a thoughtful and creative way of honoring Kultida Woods. Tiger may not be teeing it up this week, but the Woods family’s impact is definitely being felt at Torrey Pines this week.

Scheffler in dad mode

No one can go from shooting 70 in rough conditions on the course right into dad mode quite like the world No. 1. Scottie Scheffler may not have been with his son right after his round on Thursday, but there were a handful of young kids screaming for Scheffler’s attention, and he restored order to the whole ordeal before he began signing.

The kids got pretty quiet the second they realized that’s what it would take to get their favorite player’s autograph. Shout out to Scheffler for taking control, and shout out to those kids for braving the (objectively miserable) elements in order to get that signature.

My favorite moment of the day (besides watching Rory McIlroy chip-in on the No. 8) came when a young girl got putting advice from Scheffler. I have no doubt in my mind that the young fan will be the second-best putter out there in no time thanks to the drills she just received from the World No. 1.

The fan also got a signed ball from Scheffler, so it’s clear who had the best time at Torrey Pines today.
