Four months ago, my husband, Paul, started using TheStack — a swing speed trainer co-created by biomechanist Dr. Sasho MacKenzie and Ping engineer Marty Jertson. TheStack system helps golfers increase their swing speed and distance with a training regimen that is customized to your personal level.
I figured Paul would be the perfect test subject for TheStack for a number of reasons: he’s a pro, and a teacher, with a plus-handicap index. He’s using custom-fitted equipment, has regular access to a TrackMan launch monitor, and enjoys the benefit of playing regularly on the same golf course, so gains off the tee are immediately noticeable. All he had to do was follow TheStack’s suggested training regimen and update me on his progress.
I documented Paul’s baseline status here, with the hope of getting some revealing gains as he continued working with TheStack. And after four months using the system, the results are undeniable.
As you can see in the charts above, Paul’s gains with TheStack are significant: 11 mph in driver speed since his first session and more than 30 yards of total carry. Perhaps most incredibly, Paul experienced these gains after just eight training sessions. When he first started the program in September, the app suggested completing training sessions every few days. Well, work — and life — gets in the way sometimes, so Paul was a bit more sporadic in his training sessions than he initially anticipated. But the beauty of TheStack is that you can still experience huge gains even if you aren’t as consistent as you’d like with the training. Paul took as much as a month in between sessions and still gleaned the benefits of the system.

“I definitely noticed, the last few weeks, anytime I would play — from the exact same tee box and conditions — instead of having a 6- or 7-iron into certain par 4s, I had pitching wedge and 9-iron,” Paul told me. “So I could see that it was definitely working. Anybody who wants to get better at golf should put TheStack into their routine.”
It’s tempting to wonder just how high Paul’s ceiling could be with TheStack. He’s been a 250-yard carry guy all his life, and recently launched himself into the 280s. Is 300+ achievable? I’ll keep you posted.
