HIGHLIGHTS

check Six loft options
The Ping G440 is available in six different lofts for every desired ball flight. That includes a fade-biased 2 hybrid, neutral mid-hybrids and draw-inducing 5, 6 and 7.
check Hotter face
Ping’s latest hybrid has a shallower and thinner face than previous iterations, geared toward delivering more speed and also a higher apex for shots that stop quickly.
check New hosel design
The club’s “Free Hosel” design and lightweight carbon crown lower the center of gravity for more forgiveness.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

When it comes to hybrids, Ping is offering just one model. But six loft offerings basically means six unique models because Ping took a specific design approach with each one.

The lofts range from 17-degree (2-hybrid) to 34-degree (7-hybrid), and no one expects the same player-type to carry both of those clubs.

Ping G440 drivers, fairway woods and hybrids: 7 things to know
By: Jack Hirsh

“Knowing the 2-hybrid player and the 7-hybrid golfer have different shot expectations, we engineered the lofts to best fit their needs,” Ping CEO and president John K. Solheim said. “The ability to optimize the CG location in each loft enables us to influence ball flight, designing the lower-lofted versions with a slight fade/straight tendency and transitioning to the higher-lofted heads from slight draw to draw biased. This adds a new dimension to the hybrid fitting process while helping golfers better optimize and properly gap their set.”

With that in mind, the 2-hybrid is deisgned to be fade-biased, knowing that the player with lots of a speed who may consider a 2-hybrid doesn’t want to see the ball go left. This essentially complements the LST line as it’s also optimized to be hit off the tee.

The 3- and 4-hybrids are more neutral and designed with the MAX player in mind as someone seeking forgiveness.

Finally, the 5-, 6- and 7-hybrids are draw-biased to help players optimize their set gapping, more catering to the SFT player who needs a high launch and forgiveness.

PLAYER TESTING TAKEAWAYS

“Clean, elegant matte finish. Good presentation visually. Impact was a good sensation, friendly. Some variance on mishits, but in the risk vs. benefit for yards and misses, I want yards. This club had great distance and carry numbers. It’s the club I want from the rough to win some bets. I’m willing to suffer some misses for additional distance.” – Jerry Wenker, 17 handicap

“Doesn’t look closed or open. Neutral. Bad shots turn good. Consistency, distance, feel. You know where on the face you hit it.” – Joe Kowalski, 10.6

“Pops off face even on misses. Great dispersion and consistent distance.” – Greg Caster, 15.1
