Course Overview
The course dates to 1929, but Robert Trent Jones Sr. launched it onto the golf world’s radar with his redesign for the 1960 PGA Championship. That overhaul turned a boilerplate Firestone employee course into the tight, tree-lined beast that has played host to more than 70 professional tournaments and three PGA Championships. Critics say the course can be long and arduous and too many parallel fairways make it one-dimensional. They miss the point — Firestone is a classic shotmaker’s course. That’s why its list of champions is so strong — Tiger Woods won seven times here — and the course has spent more time on TV than Jennifer Aniston.
