bryson dechambeau waves to the rowd during the 2024 u.s. open

Bryson DeChambeau leads through three rounds at Pinehurst No. 2.

USGA

The 124th U.S. Open is through three rounds, and Sunday is sure to be a treat for golf fans.

Bryson DeChambeau leads the way as he searches for his second U.S. Open title, and there’s plenty of talent in pursuit. Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay and Matthieu Pavon have him in their sights, while Ludvig Aberg and Hideki Matsuyama sit just a couple more shots back. Anyone of these contenders could hoist the trophy come Sunday evening, and it should make for an electric final day in the Carolina Sand Hills.

There’s plenty at stake for the winner of this year’s U.S. Open. Not only does the victor earn a 10-year exemption into the U.S. Open, they’ll also receive five-year exemptions into the PGA Championship, Open Championship and the Masters. But exemptions and prestige aren’t the only perks coming to the U.S. Open champion. There’s also a nice winner’s check — and this year, it’s bigger than ever before.

How much does the U.S. Open winner earn?

The USGA recently released the official purse breakdown for the U.S. Open, and the winner is set to take home a record-breaking sum. Of the jaw-dropping $21.5 million total, $4.3 million will go to the winner. That marks the largest-ever first-prize check for a major champion.

But even for those who don’t etch their name in the trophy, there’s still plenty of cash to go around. Each of the top four finishers will earn over $1 million for the week, while everyone inside the top 10 will clear $500,000.

Check out the full purse breakdown below.
