T-Squared Social
Move over, Old Tom. Here come Tiger and Timberlake.
On Monday, Tiger Woods and his business partner and friend Justin Timberlake announced plans to open a new high-end sports bar and hangout in St. Andrews, Scotland, just steps away from the Old Course.
The bar, called T-Squared Social, is the second location from Woods and Timberlake, who last month opened a gleaming flagship T-Squared Social in Midtown Manhattan. (The bar’s name pays homage to Woods’ first name and Timberlake’s last.)
T-Squared St. Andrews will occupy the space belonging to the New Picture House Cinema on North St. in the heart of town, just a 7-iron away from the first tee at the Old Course. The 90-year-old triplex theater will undergo extensive renovations to house T-Squared, including the refurbishment of one of the theater’s full-sized movie screens for movie nights and live sports programming. These updates will see the theater continue to exist as a public good for the community of St. Andrews during and after the period when it is transformed into a state-of-the-art space for T-Squared Social.
“The planned T-Squared Social investment will enable the local community, students and visitors, the opportunity to experience a broader range of cinema, dining and entertainment at the popular venue,” David Morris, the cinema’s managing director, said in a press release. “The New Picture House will continue to operate as usual until further notice. The Directors look forward to supporting T-Squared Social with their development plans and to welcoming new and existing customers into the New Picture House on completion of the re-development works.”
Woods and Timberlake partnered with the global real estate and hospitality group NEXUS Luxury Collection (where they are both shareholders) and 8AM Golf (the holding company behind GOLF.com) to create the concept and plan to open more T-Squared locations in many of golf’s most popular destinations, as the St. Andrews site suggests. The partnership envisions T-Squared as a new offering in the exploding golf entertainment space — part-restaurant, part-indoor sports hangout that appeals to golfers (and sports fans) of all ages.
Of course, neither TW nor JT is an outsider to St. Andrews. Woods has won two of his 15 major titles at Open Championships at the Old Course, while Timberlake is a regular visitor and participant in the annual Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
“I have been fortunate enough to enjoy many special moments here at St. Andrews,” said Woods of the famed home of golf. “We all wanted to bring our T-Squared Social concept to St. Andrews to add to the local community and be a welcoming place for those living there and for visitors.”
A golf diehard, Timberlake has quietly become one of the game’s biggest celebrity investors, working closely with his strategic partners at 8AM Golf across the company’s golf-focused assets.
The bar is slated to open in 2024, subject to local approval.
