TaylorMade's 2023 British Open collection inspired by Royal Liverpool
TaylorMade Golf
As golf fans get ready for the final men’s major championship of the year — The Open Championship — gear junkies can once again celebrate TaylorMade bringing to life the history of the moment with their newest collection of limited edition gear.
With the 151st playing of The Open taking place at Royal Liverpool, also referred to Hoylake, there is a lot that can be celebrated from winning scores to local sporting history away from golf. Let’s dive in.
Staff bag
The first standout is the bright yellow staff bag, which is a reference to the famous scoreboards used by the R&A to display scores and, as always, congratulate the champion golfer of the year.
Something very unique about the large side panels is that Taylormade designers used two different fonts in honor of the local soccer clubs Everton and Liverpool which play in the annual head-to-head Merseyside Derby match. It’s the longest-running derby match in England and has been contested annually since 1962.
The raised wave pattern symbolizes the Mercy River that divides The Wirral Peninsula, where Royal Liverpool resides on the northwest corner, from mainland Great Britain.
Another camouflaged message in the golf bag’s design is the “Kingsway” and “Queensway” markings above the umbrella pockets for the aptly named tunnels that connect the mainland to the peninsula.
Last but not least the numbers 270 and 271 represent previous winning scores at Hoylake by TaylorMade staffers Tiger Woods in 2006 and Rory McIlroy in 2014.
Price: $599
Covers, accessories, and balls
Just like the staff bag, the themes carry over to the headcovers, with the putter covers also representing the famous scoreboard and the green driver and fairway wood covers displaying the starters clock found on the first tee.
Price: Driver: $59.99, Fairway, rescue, and putter covers: $49.99
TaylorMade is also offering the TP5 golf balls with clock Pix graphics in matching yellow box.
The pix TP5 and TP5X golf balls are priced at $59.99 per dozen.
If you are looking to get your hands on this British Open gear, you better be quick; it’s only available at TaylorMadegolf.com, and once it’s gone it’s gone.
