A great field has gathered in Texas for the 2022 Cadence Bank Houston Open, and according to the Houston Open betting odds via BetMGM, World No. 2 Scottie Scheffler leads the way as the prohibitive betting favorite. Here’s what you need to know.
2022 Houston Open odds: This week’s favorites
Scottie Scheffler may have recently lost his No. 1 world ranking, but if last week’s performance is a sign of things to come, he’ll have it back before long. Scheffler rallied with a nine-under 62 in the final round of the World Wide Technology Championship to finish T3.
That, along with his world-beating play last season, earns him the betting favorite honors this week in Texas, to the tune of +600.
The next player on the list is Sam Burns, but he’s a distant second in odds-to-win at +1400.
Other notables to keep an eye on are Tony Finau (+1800), last week’s winner Russell Henley at +2200, Hideki Matsuyama (+2500) and Jason Day (+2800), who is eyeing a comeback win.
2022 Houston Open odds: Long shot of the week
For this week’s long shot, we’re going with a longtime PGA Tour veteran from a golf-famous family, Kevin Tway. The 34-year-old has had a rough start to the new season, missing the cut in all five of his starts so far (long shots are long shots for a reason).
Last year, Tway collected only two top-25s among his 11 made cuts. But it’s where one of those top-25s occurred that’s important for our purposes. Tway recorded his best finish of the year and lone top-10 at this very tournament, the Houston Open, where he fired a final-round 68 to finish T2.
With his odds-to-win at +30000 this week, should he improve upon last year and capture his second-career win in Houston, he could turn a modest $10 bet into $3,000.
