The final men’s major of the year, the 2022 Open Championship at St. Andrews, has arrived. A look at the Open betting odds via BetMGM shows that while Rory McIlroy has the best odds to win, the list of betting favorites is long and fearsome. Here’s what you need to know.

2022 Open Championship odds: This week’s favorites

Will this be the week that four-time major champ McIlroy finally ends his lengthy majorless drought that dates back to 2014? The oddsmakers over at BetMGM certainly think so, installing McIlroy as the tournament favorite to win at +1000. But beware, McIlroy was also the betting favorite at the U.S. Open last month, and we know how that turned out.

McIlroy finished T5 at Brookline and watched as Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick held strong to capture his first major title. That earned him the fourth spot in odds to win the Open at St. Andrews at +1800. He’s tied with World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm.

Ahead of that trio are Xander Schauffele (+1400), who won the 2022 Scottish Open on Sunday, and Jordan Spieth (+1600) who, like Rory, is trying to end a majorless streak of his own.

For the Tiger Woods fans out there anxiously awaiting his return to the course where he’s won two Opens (in 2000 and 2005), you can bet on your man to take home his fourth claret jug at +6600 odds.

2022 Open Championship odds: Long shot of the week

For the final major of the year, we’re going with a medium-range longshot, one who actually has a chance to win and make you some money. That player is Kurt Kitayama. The 29-year-old pro hailing from Chico, Calif., has yet to secure a victory on the PGA Tour, but he’s been knocking at the door all season long.

His best finishes of the year were two runner-ups, one at the Mexico Open in May and another just last week at the Scottish Open. Add to those a third place at the Honda Classic and it’s clear that Kitayama is due for his breakout win soon.

With a hot-hand going right now, why can’t it be this week? At +15000 odds to win, should Kitayama make history and claim the Claret Jug at St. Andrews this week, you could turn a $100 bet into $15,000.

You can see the top 15 in Open Championship betting odds as of Monday morning below, or head over to BetMGM to see the full list of odds and bets for this week.
