Heavy rain in Japan postpones second round of Zozo Championship until Saturday

October 24, 2019

After Tiger Woods electrified the crowds with a first-round 64 on Thursday, expectations for his second round at the inaugural Zozo Championship went through the roof.

But unfortunately the PGA Tour’s first official event in Japan has been beset with foul weather. Officials moved tee times forward one hour in anticipation of bad weather for Friday’s second round, but it was all for naught, as heavy rain came down and resulted in the cancellation of the entire day’s play.

The second round will now begin on Saturday morning between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. local time. Tiger Woods was originally scheduled to tee off in the third-to-last group in the second round, at 8:40 a.m. local time. With the new, earlier timeframe, he’ll be going off of No. 1 at 8:10 a.m. local time.

According to onsite reports, the new plan is to get 27 holes in on both Saturday and Sunday, so though fans will be missing Tiger on Friday, there will be plenty of golf to watch on the weekend.

Woods is currently tied for the lead with Gary Woodland at six under par, and is seeking his 82nd career title, which is a significant number, because it would tie Sam Snead for the most PGA Tour wins all time.
